for as long as ive been seriously working out, my left pec is significantly larger in mass than my right pec. ive tried a few things to even this out, but its mostly been futile. what id like to know is, would it be unwise to do a few sets on bench with 5 or so extra lbs on the right side?

maybe start doing dumbells? same wieght on each arm, but the smaller pec will prolly have to work a lil harder to get that wieght up, and maybe edventually even out. im not sure though this seems odd. how badly uneven is it?
i would just keep lifting, edventually it will even out, for sure, as long as your growing----------------------------------

Same thing applies for pecs, I've been doing this for a long while now, and I'm almost completely balanced again. I also had to work at my posture, since the imbqalancs came back after a while (shoulder area wasn't good), but certain exercises helped me alot in fixin that. The only imbalance I still have is between my biceps, but that will take a little longer to even out, because I tore is and stuff...
Almost everything was unbalanced, cause I didn't do anything about it (I did everything wrong to balance it out again at first), but I learned from the mistakes...
You should also look at your shoulder posture, to see if that might be the cause of the imbalance, but it could also be because you are stonger in your right arm than your left, making your right arm do more than your right pec (thus it's smaller)...
In any case, start using dumbells, and lower the weights your are using, also check out your form and posture. The exercises I did to improve my posture were deadhangs (pull and chin up style), standing in a handstand for a long periods, pushups stands, dips. Just stands and hands, later I added the broomstick exercise, that also helped A LOT!

Your pec problem probably lies with your arms. Do you have a difference in the size of your arms? If so, then what is happening is that your chest is compensating for your weaker side. If your left arm has less mass and strength than you right then your body compensates by making your left pec bigger because it is forced to handle more of the load. Use the link that was provided above it will help you balance yourself out. It will take a while though. I had an inch difference in my arms and i'm down to less than a half inch. Hopefully i'll have the problem fixed soon.

There may be genetics involved in this, in which case you can't do much of anything to fix it. On the other hand, if this is not genetic, but rather a muscle imbalance, perform independent arm movements (use dumbbells for chest) and do only as many reps as your weaker side can take and eventually it will catch up. Don't overload it.

i know you all recommend against it, but ive been doing dumbbell sets with an extra 5 lbs on the right side. only on my sets of 8 though, the rest i do evenly. and at the end of the day, i do 3 sets of 8 on reg bench with an extra 5 lbs on the right side again. despite the warnings, this seems to be very effective. its only been 2 workouts and the right has caught up considerably.

I too have the chest problem where my right pec is more fuller and muscular compared to my, I think its due to the problem where my right arm is stronger so when I perform bench presses, my right side compensates for the left.
Where arms are concerned, my left arm use to be slightly underdeveloped compared to my right and after performing most of my arm exercises with dumbbells my left arm is slightly bigger now . I think its impossible to literally have 2 measurements that are the same for each arm, normally one side would be a little bigger.Pain and suffering is just a state of mind. You have to have the mindset of a freak to be a freak.

could be a nerve issue, or more likely technique. if you are right side dominant the weaker left side can have a tendancy to 'cheat' to get the weight up. my training partner has always benched with one of his shoulders lifted slightly, i've never bothered to correct him tho. shhhhhhhh. lol
sound like some of you are using the tris to lift with less focus on the chest.Dream in light-years,

This is a relief! I thought I had something wrong with me because I have the exact same probelm. My left pec is more defined than my right pec.
My opinion is, which ever is your hand you use the most(right of left handed), one part of your body is bound to be bigger than the other because you use it more often throughout the day without noticing it(nothing to do with weight lifting).

uneven chest
my problem is scoliosis. my left chest muscle is fully defined while my right is shaped different and smaller. yea it sucks
i think its because when my shoulders go back in bench press form, my left arm can go back all the way while my right shoulder blade hits the curve in my spine, thus not giving me proper form.
i dont think there is anyway to fix this.. any help/suggestions..
