With age and experience comes wisdom on knowing where to choose your battles. It's a two way street is what you realize. If I'm making an effort to get something off the ground with a girl, she better be as well. I don't chase anymore and I don't go out of my way to make someone notice me. I'm not going to pine after a girl through texts or fake social media bull so she knows I'm smitten with her. I've too much self respect for myself to go around treating anyone like a princess when it's 2017, and we all should be on equal ground. And if you think it's tiring 23, try it in your 30s when you're in thick of your career, have adult responsibilities, and have found hobbies in your life that you would rather invest your free time in versus some person who may just end up wasting your time. Your tolerance levels for having to put any effort aside from starting a conversation and having it naturally snowball into something more are really low. But you're also happier, outside from when you wish you balls deep inside someone instead of your hand on the weekend lol

While I agree there is some over reaction, there's an evolutionary driver here. A woman has a child and it's obviously her own, historically and throughout evolution a man could never be 100% certain a child was his own, we're wired to constantly be on the look out for infidelity to avoid the cuckhold scenario and investing our resources to bring up a child that is not our own.
