V for Vendetta
This is the best movie I have seen in a long time, V's monologue is incredible. I couldn't imagine how many takes it took for his to run through those toung twisters the movie uses. You almost have to be an English major to fully understand everything being conveyed by this movie. I loved the army of Vs at the end and felt like I wanted to be in V's revolution. The acting was exquisite and although one did not see V's face one felt as though they knew him.
The introduction of the hero "V" is quite unique. Here is "V"'s opening intro speech:
"VoilĂ*! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only veredict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V".
A very good movie IMO.
Other opinions?

I really liked it a lot but the second half of the movie was so much different/not what I had expected. The opening monologue was absolute gold though.
Plus Natalie Portman in the curls/outfit was pretty cute even if it was pedophiliac'ish

EXCELLENT movie. A lot of people expected non stop, stupid action, but I'm glad it wasn't like that at all. Very dark and clever.

A little movie trivia that I thought was cool. During the Bishop scene. I believe they cut this out but I still found it interesting. Found it on the original script of the movie:
DOMINIC
The perpetrator apparently turned
on the Bishop's stereo.
Subsequently, a great deal of the
tape is useless.
He hands the player to Finch.
FINCH
What music did he play?
DOMINIC
Beethoven. The fifth, I believe.
Finch smiles.
FINCH
Da, da, da, dum. That's code.
Morse code.
DOMINIC
Sir?
FINCH
For the letter "V".

weird how the author of the book wanted his name removed from the movie after watching it... after hearing that i thought the movie was going to be a bomb shell

I don't know. I thought it was pretty cool myself.
To respond to an earlier post. Yeh I like Arny and Stallone "Shoot em up" flix but I am tired of being bombarded with mindless flix with poor plots. The bad guy kicks everyone’s ass at the beginning or does something completely out of character to get the hero’s attention and then the hero wins in the end by not only surpassing endless odds but also beating the very guy that kicked his butt in the beginning of the film.
They cover mindless plots and elementary monolog with million dollar theatrics and special effects and expect us to WoW at them? I'm sure if I were a child or have absolutely little to no creativity I may be distracted enough by the effects to not see the obvious errors and weak plot. It's like receiving a beautiful package with ornate gift wrap, streamers and bows, only to open it and find a steaming pile of crap inside.
That's why I did a review on this movie. Its a breath of fresh air in a sea of gift wrapped crap.

It's one of my favourites of all time.
I always thought Hugo Weaving had a gift for speech, and this one proved it. So much emotion in voice alone, it's incredible.
While I enjoyed the opening monologue, I think the one that really struck me hard was the bit where he hacked into all the television stations and gave the speech on how the populace had let the government control them. Sent a shiver down my spine, that one did, especially in this climate where people are all too willing to surrender their freedoms for security.
Also the scene where Evey asks him "Are you going to kill more people?" and he turns to her and answers "Yes.". Nothing goody-goody like refusing to kill, just a simple statement of fact. No over-elaborate nonsense surrounding the answer too. Great scene.
Although I have to point out one flaw in the major, and that was that the love was hardly well done. I didn't feel anything going on between V and Evey apart from a teacher-student relationship, almost, so when V at the end said that he fell in love with Evey, it just seemed plain cheesy.
Other than that, though, the movie was just about perfect for me. Great action, deep storyline and meaning, and great acting.

I agree with you. The movie was pretty good and had good potential, but it just stunk with politics. Politics are fine, and there is a place for them on CNN and Fox, but when you go to watch a movie, it's the last thing you want to see. It also screws up the true movie ratings. Instead of true ratings on how good the movie is, you wind up with a bunch of people rating it based on whether or not it is aligned with their political views. It's similar to what happened to the Dixie Chics. Even if they would have made good music, nobody (or next to it) listens to them anymore because of their political views.
I also read a bunch of Marvel Comics, and they are very similar. You will be in the middle of really good storyline, and they will throw out some political BS. I have learned to ignore it because they aren't quite that extreme. However, V went completely overboard with it. I just wanted to say to them, "We get what you are trying to say. Now, can we get on with a descent movie?"

Good god man, the movie is based on the ideas of liberty and freedom in a tyrannical government! Nothing to do whatsoever with Republican vs Democrats, Communism vs Capitalism, or whatever not, as your Dixie Chicks example seems to be suggesting.
1984 is a classic. Would you disregard it just because it is 'too political', even though the message is one that everyone should listen to?

Awesome review. I saw the connection where "V" states that he believes there meeting was not in chance and when he put her threw (trying not to spoil the plot) her test that he admitted that he wanted every day to end her suffering. He even showed her his masterpiece because he "like God" never rolls the dice or believes in chance. Me may have became emotionally attached because she was his destiny.
First movie in a long time that the plot and characters remained consistant.
Just a though, but excellent analysis my friend.

If you're trying to draw a link to issues such as the Patriot act and the NSA wiretapping, then of course there's a link. But such a theme is universal, not just limited to the United States.

Good point, but I still felt it could have been developed in a more obvious way. Either that, or they need not have included the romance itself, and focused on their relationship as a teacher-student relationship which eventually evolved to a relationship of equals. That actually did happen, but the producers decided to include a romantic element as well, which I honestly felt was a bad move.
Oh and the dominoes scene was BADASS.

She is very very thin. I'm not being stupid or moronic, but that body type and mine don't jive too well. Too much of a size difference.
I like bigger women honestly. Especially the weight room babes with meat on em. Thinner girls remind me of H.S. Those tini girls that have bodys shaped like a 2X4.. It's actually unappealing.

THis movie was awesome....Definitely in My top 3 of all time... It was 1984, but in movie form for the most part.*** And why does every1 say you don't see V's face?***....You do see it, the part where the fire is going on and he is escaping "Lark Hill"(Or whatever the human testing place was called" ... He has no face from the fire and the virus they were injecting him with, just burning radiant eyes are all that is left. And also Interesting about the morse code for "V" that is friggin awesome, wonder why they left it out
