raisins & bananas.. is it okay?

is it okay to take raisins and or bananas with my oatmeal while preparing for a show? or should they be avoided because of their high sugar content.
if not can i take either one at any time of the day? ....dont know if this matters, but i am an ecto/meso body type, i gain approx 4 pounds in the off season..

Bananas are high glycemic, so they metabolize quite fast, so being on a bb contest prep diet not the best thing to be eating on a regular basis, i opted for apples on my diet, lower GI value, keep you fuller, and do not as easily turn into stored sugar.

i believe the same goes for raisins, raisins are also pretty calorie dense for such a small amt,a 1/4 cup packs 31 g's carbs, a whole apple doesn't even have that many carbs, the only time i used raisins is when i was carbbing up the morning of my competition.

These foods are great the day of the show for carbing up...that's the only time I ate them during contest prep. During my diet, strawberries were the only fruit I ate, with my oats in the morning.

    banana and raisins

depends on what else you eat

there is no such thing as an absolute taboo food

think about the quantity as well as the timing

so to answer your question depends on what else you eat?

    banana is fine

once again raisins generally high to moderate on gi as any dehyrated food but once again this depends on current physiological state as well as total food and macronutrient consumption throughout the day

banana is low on gi scale rating 52 while apple 30
also think about gload multiply gi by active carb (minus fiber) per serving

raisins gi scale rating 64 moderate
refer to The Carbohydrate files by Jamie Hale in depth look at carbohdyrates
