How do you figure out what your one rep max is? Is there a formula? I hope this isn't a stupid question.

1RM = 1 Repetition Maximum. Self explanatory. This is the weight that you can lift only once. The reps for your sets are based off of a percentage of your 1RM.
Now, let's say that you're concerned with muscle growth. To achieve this, you will need to lift 65-80% of your 1RM for 3-6 sets.
For example, if your 1RM for squats is 100 lbs, you should lift 65 lbs - 80 lbs for 3-6 sets to achieve muscular hypertrophy.
understand?
