How many lbs of muscle can you gain per month?

How many lbs of muscle is it possible to gain per month assuming your diet and training are very good, and assuming you dont use steroids?

I'm not talking fat/water weight, but lbs of pure muscle.
Is 1lb per month realistic or low?

You can actually gain a few a month if you have your sh*t in order. It also depends on other factors like how much you weigh already or how long you have been lifting.

I read somewhere before you can gain around 2.5 lbs of lean muscle mass a week, if everything is done correctly.

you do realize that not many people on this site do "everything correctly" right

im talking about STRICT diet, NO cheating, working out 4-5x a week, doing cardio, counting cals/fat/carbs/protein

its hard to do it all of it, you have to be very dedicated

My highschool wrestling coach said that the most muscle mass you could put on in a month was about 5 lbs, if everything was done properly.

Now, if you juice, the sky's the limit... you could probably put on like 20. I'm just guessing here, though.

Jesus christ, daydreamers grand central station in here.......so you guys can gain 8lbs of lean muscle each month huh....awesome, ill see you at the olympia next year then i guess.

I say that because if you gained lean mass at that rate, you'd have gained 96lbs of muscle by this time next year.......

Anyone care to reconsider they're bull**** of gaining nothing but muscle now??

You can gain 8lbs of bodyweight in a month, but it aint all muscle, believe me. The real estimate for gains in lean muscle mass each year is 5lbs.

People seem to forget that new muscle needs a blood supply, and the human body, as amazing as it is, cannot supply 96lbs of new muscle each year with a fresh set of capillaries and anterioles to feed with oxygen and nutrients.

Besides, you gain 8lbs a month, 96lbs a year, train for 5 years with all of your 100% perfect programs and you muthafukkas gonna be hella big!!!

Waits for the lame " it slows down" arguement for trying to justify such bull**** comments about muscle gains

isn't it kind of unhealthy to not do cardio while bulking? i'm bulking but i ride my bike every other day and play bball once a week because i suppose i care more about my overall stamina and heart health than just packing on muscle.

Yes, I realize that. I think it was something like the maximum possible, the rest would be water weight or fat. It didn't say that you could do it consistently or consecutively either. I'll try to find the article later when I have time.

I would say 15-20 pounds of muscle your first year, 10-15 your second, 5-10 third and 4-5 a year after that is good but if you are natural and stay that way after 3-4 years you will be pushing 1-2 pounds a year.

However quality, density, maturity etc all make a muscle look bigger and better and only come with time and hitting the muscle over and over. That look is what separates the fat boys from the real bodybuilders.

One pound of muscle a month would be doing well in normal circumstances...If this seems slow, bear in mind that 12 lbs a year over 5 years is 60 lbs. How many people do you know that have gained 60 lbs of muscle in five years? BB is about the long view. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

with proper nutrition and proper timing of lifting i think 5-6 lbs is possible.

i have seen somebody gain 30lbs in a month before. how much of that is muscle i don't know.
I got mega-negged for saying something derogatory about Metallica. lol.

I'm with you on this. I haven't cut my cardio at all. I just up my calories to make sure i'm getting a surplus.

I'm sure I'm slowing my gains, but it's important to me to keep my cardiovascular health at it's peak.

I've heard 7-8 lbs a year is about as much as the body can put on, however, this does not apply for new lifters. In their first year of lifting, or in a person who used to lift, but had a long layoff, putting on 20 or more lbs of lean muscle mass in a year is possible.

for a male who is in their peak test. production (18-25)...its not possible to gain more than 8lbs of lean muscle in a year

if you add lets say 500mg/week of test into the picture you can get 3-4 times that in one year
