    Question Figure vs Bodybuilding competitions

I am planning my first show in early Spring and see that I can choose from bodybuilding, fitness and figure. Can anyone tell me what exactly does the Figure competition entail? Is the Figure competition an optional component to those that compete in the Fitness class? Can someone competing in the Novice Womens LW crossover to Figure...?

    Thank you for help!

    Yogagirl,
Hi, figure and fitness are totally different competitions. In fitness you have to do a gymnastics/dance/whatever your talent is routine and figure is mandatory poses like bodybuilding except with some key differences like open hands. I have noticed that figure can vary a little depending on what competition you're looking into so you may want to talk to someone running the competition about the rules and requirements.
    Hope that helps a little!

As already mentioned- a figure competition is basically exactly the same to a bodybuilding one- only (well in Australia anyway)- figure girls wear high heals, are smaller and pose with open hands etc. But you still have your 3 rounds (comp, sym & routine)
Have a look at some sites, make a comparision & decide what look you like the most. Maybe:

    Depending on the organization

you decide to compete in, figure can consist of mandatory poses similar to bodybuilding with judging on physique in a one and two peice suit and heels. NPC figure competitors only do four quarter turns while other organizations have the girls do the quarter turns and several mandatory poses. There might be two or three class heights. Best bet is to contact the organization you're interested in and ask them. Figure competitors should look a little softer than fitness competitors. Fitness competitons with the NPC consists of judging a 45 second fitness routine, a one peice and two peice suit comparison wearing heels and a 2 minute fitness routine. The fitness routines consist of 5 mandatory moves. The classes are also per height, short, medium and tall. Both of these classes look for athletic, symmetrial and proportioned physiques. Hair and make-up should be done well and your skin should be clear and nicely tanned and toned. Suits should compliment your physique and the colors should go well with your skin and hair colors.

Bodybuilding consists of either height or weight classes, again depending on the organization. With the NPC, each class is by weight. During the prejudging with the NPC, the class comes out and does four quarter turns then each competitor comes out and does a 45 second routine of their evening posing routine without music. Then the class comes out again and we do the five mandatory poses, sometimes six if they ask for a most muscular pose. In the evening, we do a 90 second posing routine to music

Hope this helps make your decision a little easier. I compete in bodybuilding so if you have any questions, please feel free to send me a private message.

    Good luck.

    Peace
