Best time for fruit?...
i was wondering when is the best time to get fruit in?...or better yet...when is it not a good time...?
i enjoy an apple or 1serv. of fruit a few hours after dinner. now i eat it with a protein bar(20g) or a cup of dry kashi-type cereal as a small night time meal. i would like to eat more (hate bannanas). i read somewhere-i think one of terracotta's links-that a small peice of fruit (50-100cal) should be eaten after every meal. i think it was in the BB carb-cycling site. yes here it is...by Twin Peaks..........this is an excerpt from the hi-carb day......
".....Also, each one of those meals must include a small piece of fruit (again, a requirement before downing enough other carbs to the point of no return). Almost any fruit will do (save bananas, kiwis, avocado, and other very high calorie or high fat fruits). We are looking for a small serving of fresh fruit, say between 50 and 100 calories worth. The fructose from fruit will help keep liver glycogen stores full and keep your body in the fed state as opposed to starvation-mode. And, if only consumed in small amounts, is not likely to spill over into adipose."
does this sound good for an everyday situation?...i used to eat 2 cookies after dinner , but now i would love to have the fruit directly after dinner (and as another meal as well)....i remember the old 80's days when proper food combining was a big deal....fruit was not to be eaten with things like proteins or complex carbs due to optimum digestion..the golden rule was, "fruit should be eaten, and eaten alone"
i think this old way of thinking stuck with me...should i throw it out the window and start munching on fruit as i please? (w/due respect to sticking to a six meal plan). the author also sated that the small peice of fruit doesn't really need to be counted into your carbs...that i'm not so sure...three peices of fruit could add up...
what do you guys think?......

more info from the Twin Peaks Q & A
Q ] When bulking is it necessary to include the small piece of fruit with the carb meals on high and low carb days in order to enhance the Fed signal?
I am wondering, since the individual is already in a mild state of caloric excess, if the fructose in this case is going to be more likely to spill over into adipose stores in this instance?
I have greatly enjoyed including fruit while on a cutting diet, as I have never done so previously, and would certainly welcome the opportunity to keep it in the diet while on a bulk.
A: The fruit is not as important when bulking as it is when cutting. However, you can and should keep it in, particularly on low carb days. Remember, we are talking about relatively low amounts of fruit to begin with, and the fiber and vitamins more than offset any (minimal) fat gain.
Q ] Regarding the small serving of fruit that one is to consume with the carb meals, specifically on the Low Carb day, would it count towards that meal's total carbohydrate grams?
Like if one was shooting for 75 grams/meal and the fruit contained 15, should only 60 grams of the other sources be consumed?
A: Do you really think 30 grams of fruit carbs every three days is going to make that much of a difference? Probably not. I'd suggest not counting it toward your carb meals, and down the road, if you need to tweak things a tad (hopefully you won't) this could be one way.

Dreaming my life away....
I ususally have a banana along with my whey powder after a workout. I frequently have another piece of fruit at some point during the day. And occasionally, I eat 4-5 pieces of fruit day . When I was struggling with my ED fruit was one of my "safe" foods, and I ate the bulk of my calories from it...and I certainly wasn't fat!!
I confess I didn't read the Twin Peaks stuff you printed. I personally don't get myself wound-up about timing of foods, so long as I have gotten everything in by the end of the day!

I'm eating fruit all day long with lean protein, veggies, and healthy fat. My bedtime meal has half a banana in it!
My goals are to gain muscle and health.

Believe in life
Fruit is so good for you! I usually have about a 1/2 serving with the first frew meals of the day. Then I will have fruit in my PWO as well as a small amount with my cc in the evening! As long as you don't eat too much in one sitting you will be fine! Better to eat smaller quantities more often than eat a whole lot in one go.
