Because they are trying to be really really safe. But I agree with polifter88, you never really have to come off it because nothing has been proven yet to be harmful about taking creatine nonstop. The key word is YET, and many people are scared ****less that there will be something harmful about it. I say screw it, eating oatmeal everyday could be harmful too and we just havent discovered it, doesnt stop me.

Not that its correct, but I read somewhere else about the reason some people cycle.

Apparently the idea behind it is that while on creatine, one can gain a decent amount of strength and size. When one cycles off of creatine, they lose some of the size creatine helped them gain, but theoretically one maintains the same (or very close to) strength gains made from the cycle. Then, as theory goes, the next time a creatine cycle is began, their will be an even greater gain in strength as the ending strength of the last cycle is the beginning strength of the new cycle; where as staying on creatine the entire time, one's strength gains will eventually taper off.

I personally dont beleive that^^, but I'm pretty sure thats why people do it.

no. 2 weeks is not enough.

    4-6 weeks is about right.

and no u cant stay on it forever. u have to continue to force your body to produce its own. it will notice the elevated levels of creatinine (byproduct of creatine) and shut down the natural production.

This complete horse ****, sorry bro, but it is....dont know what your basing this statement on.

Creatine supplementation isnt an instead of measure for creatine resources, its an 'as well as' supplement. You take creatine and it increases the amount of creatien phosphate your body makes and the overall amount of CP your muscle fibres can store..... When you train and you begin to use CP, it causes a chemical reaction which makes CTP ( creatine tri-phosphate ) which is the actual fuel you use in the action of a muscle contraction. CP turns into CTP and its the CTP that you use, not the CP in its pure form, When CTP has been burnt or 'exhausted' a subsidiary product called CDP ( Creatine Di-Phosphate ).

When this chemical is available and present in the muscle the CP you have stored then changes the CDP back into readily usable CTP, this process uses less energy and less of the CP stores than it would to change the pure CP into CTP like when you first begin to train.....

Now, cycling on and off creatine is not necessary for safety reasons or strength reasons, when you begin to supplement with Creatine you get big boosts in strength, endurance and size, alot of the size change comes from water being held in the muscle....this is caused by the increase in the 'inpurities' in the blood ( the inpurities is the creatine, but its isnt impure....its clean and safe ). Creatine needs alot of water to be able to absorb into the muscle to work, if you take creatine and you arent drinking ALOT of water through out your day your hampering your potential gains.

If you ever feel pain or discomfort in your kidneys when supplementing with creatine its because you have actual creatine powder within your kidney because you didnt have enough water in your blood to disolve it all....it gets carried to teh kidneys to be expelled in your urine. Its like pouring salt into a cup of water, a certain amount will absorb completely and then it just starts piling up on the bottom.....the creatine does the same in your body. People have said, cycle on and off when you begin to slow down in strength gains and size, this is bull****, you cannot continually gain at the same speed all the time. Just isnt gonna happen.

When people say you slow down, then come off, then when you go back on your gain alot of strength and size ontop of what you have already gained......thats not true. Just because you come off and then go back on doesnt mean your gonna gain the same again at the same speed.....if that was true, you'd have some peopel that take creatine for years being MASSIVE and insanely strong.....but you dont get people like that. Take creatine and you dont need to cycle off, but if you want to, go for it.....if your taking CEE or CEM then you really dont need to cycle off, they've made it so you dont have to.......You dont really reach a maximum for your creatine pools in your muscles, its just that the muscle can only utilize a certain amount at one time.

Everybody needs to do ALOT more research on this and many other subjects, this board is loaded with mis-information and people that read one article about something and think they know everything about it and they talk like they know their stuff.......i think this is dangerous, people need to research all the time.

You never know everything, theres no such thing as being clever enough.....if im still learning new things after researching human biology and specifically endocrinology for 7 years now.....then im sure alot of people on here have MUCH to learn.
