Best Methods For Vascularity - Morning Of Contest
what works best for vascularity the morning of the show? I can get really lean but I can never seem to get very vascular. Any ideas? Right now i just do the rice cake, honey, and pb thing.

I watched a bodybuilding show on TV, and a lot of the competitors would stuff themselves with sugary substances (like candy or cupcakes) like 15-30min before competition to improve vascularity.
Not sure if this is a good idea or not though.

I usually have a smallish piece the night before.
And then as much as I can handle about 2 hours before pre-judging - this is in addition to the usual carb meal every 2 hours starting friday afternoon.
A couple shots from a few weeks ago:

It's the combo of fat, sugar, and sodium.
I have just found that I do really well with a "crap-load" close to pre-judging. It's really an individual thing, some guys fat load, some straight carb load - I just jam it all in!
I didn't eat cheesecake before my novice show - ate a bunch of "crap" between pre-judging and the night show - and when we got backstage at night people kept commenting on how much better I looked, and asking what I ate.
So now I start my carb load a few hours earlier on Friday, and annihilate some cheesecake before pre-judging which is when it counts.

This sounds great, it is similar to what I rec in the book. Once i cut the sodium, the steak and cheesecake and then the next morning eggs, etc help bring the sodium back into the muscle minus the water so the body will tighten up as the muscle fills up. You look great man. How do you work your water?

Well.....
I drink 2 gallons up to and including friday - and then 6-8 oz with meals and 10-12 oz between meals on saturday (thanks Layne ).
I also sip gatorade on the day of the show......
So basically, I don't cut water at all.
I did once, and came in softer and flatter - then Layne slapped me around and str8nd me out!

I do some depletion workouts a few days out, but my diet stays pretty much the same for the final 5 weeks (aside from the sodium).
The journal in my sig covers my prep for the start of this year's season. It'd be great to hear your feedback on my approach
........there's carbs in there though

LOL, as Layne has always said, there is more than one way to skin a cat. You looked great so who cares how the hell you got there. I do not, you got on stage and competed and looked awesome. Many props. I will check it out.

LOL, yeah cheesecake taste good.
Competing has do be the best feeling in the world, if you every went to a show and saw the environment you will know why.
There are some people who have the time and effort to do shows back to back kind of like a bodybuilding marathon

Since i'm not in the US i suspect that the cheese cakes that i can find here may not be the same makro splits as yours.
So would someone break down the macros of the cheese cake? How much do you eat pre contest? The book says one piece before bed and i belive 2 pieces before the competition? Any way how much in grams?
thanks

just go to foodtv.com and do a search for new york cheesecake (that's the baked style), you can see how to make it (pretty easy actually). when you put it together you will also know exactly what is in each slice.

There really is no "perfect weight". What you are after is the SUGAR, FAT and SODIUM in the cheesecake to beging the filling up process. At this point in the prep we need to get sodium back into the muscles along with the carbs/sugar, some water to start filling up and drawing body water and glucose into the muscle = "FULL LOOK". The idea iI tell most people is to eat enough, but do not make yourself bloated or FULL.

so when it comes down to it, all it is, is the right combination of fat/carb/sodium....so basically im already achieving the same effect through peanut butter and rice cakes...right???
