Go into a store that sells them and use one; you'll see.

take a look at any site that sells them
see the shape, the bend takes the strain off your wrists.
by asking this question I can assume you are a total newbie
being a newbie, it is sometimes better to use the EZ curl bar as you may tend to get forearm problems as the weight goes up on the curl
IE your muscles get stronger than the connective tissue and you can get "forearm splints" or tendonitis
the EZ curl bar cuts the possibilty of this happening

    what do those feel like?

i swear it felt like there was a bruise on the middle underside of my forearm... almost like on the bone...

i was using the barbell curls for a several weeks at really high volume... started hurting once i did the curl motion...
i've got dumbells now... but it healed... wondering if this is what you described?
