Wrestling shoes
I have tried lifting in chuck taylors but I feel too much pressure on my knees when I'm squatting. I do not feel this when I do it barefooted but I want to wear something on my feet when I lift. I was thinking of buying wrestling shoes and wanted to see if these will work.

I use boarding shoes. Get some cheap Vans, not the slip ons. They last forever and are padded to hell.

I highly recommend that you buy some weightlifting shoes like Olympic weightlifters wear. They lace up tight around your ankles and they have a leather sole which provides stability you need when squatting. They also have a raised heel which serves to move your center of gravity forward when you squat so you can be more stable in a deep squat position, if you intend to do full squats. They're really helpful to long-legged people like me especially. They are kind of expensive, but they last forever. You can get them from usaweightlifting.com.

I like wrestling shoes for deadlifts, but not as much for squatting because trying to spread the floor with them is a little uncomfortable and unstable. If you use a closer stance, though, I think they would be fine.

Hey, if your looking for some wrestling shoes that have some SERIOUS grip, check out the Asics BAM...I've had mine for almost 2 years now, and worn it for nearly all of my wrestling practices, and in some tournaments. They have the best grip IMO.
Most of other shoes that cost a lot are more focused on appearance and ergonomics. They are for the more experienced ones that use it for shots and such.
P.S. They aren't the most prettiest things, but if you look around, you could prob get them for under ~35 bucks. They are also pretty damn comfortable

I'm leaning to the Otomix shoes if I can find them cheap. Can you wear them doing deads also?

I wear my wrestling shoes for both squats and deads. They are Asiscs, I got them from a place called eastbay.com. Just make sure you get ones that don't have a split sole, you want one solid piece.

I guess I will get some wrestling shoes with a really good grip on the bottom of them. I just want to ask why I feel so much pressure and pain in my knees when I squat when I wear Chuck Taylors? I'm a tall guy I guess 6'1".

Could you tell me what kind you got Danimal? I have been looking for Asiscs BAM on the web but I can never find my size and I want to make sure not to get the kind with a split sole.

I've had mine for a couple years, and they may not make them anymore since they come out with new models each year. Let me run downstairs and look.....DO'H! Mine have split soles! It doesn't give a model name on them though. And I must say, I never noticed the sole pattern, and I've never been affected by using the split sole, so there ya go. Maybe they won't affect you.
I think mine were about 40 bucks on that eastbay site, they are nothing special, but they give good ankle support and they have good traction.

I use Chuck's all the time. Your knees aren't going out past your toes are they? I wouldn't think the type of shoe would be hurting your knees, but again the sole may be too flat for you.

I found these on eastbay. Do you think these will do Danimal or anyone else who wants to comment?

I think those will be fine. The ultimate goal is lowest to the ground as possible with maximum ankle support so anything you like and is a reasonable price will work.

I also wanted to add that I was feeling pain in my left knee when I was doing squats. I tried to change my feet position by having a wider stance and pointed my toes mor outward almost like 45 degrees. When I did this, I have no pain and I seem to be able to squat further down. I guess my legs are longer than I thought they were and this could have been giving me trouble.

I wear my Nike wrestling shoes that I've had since high school and wearing them is the most comfortable thing ever. They're amazing for deadlifts and are pretty good for squats. And I agree wearing a single sole is better considering the fact that theres no extra stress on the arch of your foot.

If your knees hurt when in Chucks, then you're probably squatting wrong.
