Has anyone ever had their gall bladder removed?

I'm not sure which message board to post this under. I was just informed that I have a gall bladder stone. I am only 19, about to be 20 in February. I am a college baseball player, I am athletically fit, I watch what I eat. I'm just wondering what causes this? Also, what happens after you get your gall bladder removed? How does it affect you? Thanks to anyone who has any information!

Wife had hers out last year. The cause can come from a couple sources but my wifes was from too much bile in the gall bladder that solidified into stones (believe this is the most common cause). Before she had it out, spicey or greasy food would give her bad indigestion. After she had it out she hasn't had indigestion since.

The operation itself is out patient. I think it was 3 small incisions less then an inch long. She was out of commission lifting, workout wise for a few weeks but there were no lasting ill effects.

She dosen't regret it in the least and wish she had it done sooner so she didn't battle a sour stomach for years. If you have a good doctor, it shouldn't be a problem just give it plenty of time to heal before you hit the gym again. Hope this helps

good luck with your operation. i had my gall bladder taken out when i was 18...i was back to work less than a week after the operation and back lifting weights 2 weeks after. i have 4 tiny scars from this procedure...u may want to talk to your specialist about complications during operation to give you an idea on what scars u may have.
