Stretchmarks
Hi, i'm not sure if there are other posts on strecthmarks and if so just point me to it please but i thought i'd start a new post anyway.
i had my son six years ago and as a result got stretchmarks (yuck!) now i have tried 100% Vitamin E oil and it helped alot! But I wondered if anyone had any other tricks to minimise or hide them (i know darker tans do) or even knew how to get rid of them for good (if this is possible)
Also i see a lot of fitness models who are mothers and none ever seem to get stretchmarks (unless of course they are airbrushed out) Hmmm maybe that's it.
Anyway, i really hate mine and would like to know what others think.

There really isn't much you can do for them. I don't mean to depress you but it's just the way it is. They are basically scars from your skin being stretched so much. And like any scars depending on how bad they are they do fade over time but usually don't completely disappear. I do feel your pain. I have 2 older sisters 1 is 43 w/ 4 kids and really no stretch marks and the other is 40 w/ 2 kids and none at all. I have one child and I got them on my thighs and waist and butt. From what I know some people are just predisposed to getting them and some aren't??? Why me and not my sisters I don't know. In fact I see alot of young people w/ them including men. Mine have really faded considerably over time. Although my skin is not smooth as when I was a youth they really aren't that noticeable anymore but I'm still hoping and waiting for a cure myself. I've tried a few creams but I don't think they really work after the stretch marks are there. They might help in prevention a bit more but that's it.
Obsessed??? Is there another way?
I only listen to people who show results....

Hi Angel,
I'm 42-have 3 kids, and stretch marks do lighten and lessen in appearance over-time. I was fortunate to have only got them on one breast-and that was with my first pregnancy (he's 18 now...). I didn't get them at all with my last two. The stretch marks on my breast are barely noticable now. Sounds like you've done all you can do for them with the Vit. E, and the only thing else I know of that lessens them is time.

Learn to love them and accept them for what they are. As much as we hate them, they are a reminder of either becoming a mother or of what we once were. When I had my kids 20 years ago I went from being a 5'4" 121lb gymnast to 5'4" 200lb oreo eating women. My stretch marks were thick and red. I'm very tan now and they are now thick and white. I still have them on my breasts, which went from an A cup to a C and stayed there until recently dropping to a B, as well as on my thighs. I've tried everything and they've never gone away. I just look at them as a badge of motherhood.

i understand the whole 'badge of motherhood' thing, but i have a child to show I'm a mother LOL. Without being rude, I hate that saying.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any fitness pros who have them?

There is a way you can improve your stretch marks!
RED ones:apply tretinoin cream they will disappear completely but I think you need prescription to get tretinoin cream
WHITE ones:exfoliate with AHAs every 2-3 days and then apply 10000iu vitamin E.On the other days apply a cream with collagen and elastin
In 3-4 weeks you will begin to see some improvement but for best results stick with this routine for at least 6 months.I am almost sure you will be happy with the improvement that you will even forget they exist!
Be sure to drink lots of water and lift weights!

Hi M, thankyou. They are white (6 years on). Excuse my ignorance but what are AHA's and where can I get them?

AHAs stand for alpha hydroxy acids. Also known as fruit acid or ascorbic (alpha hydroxy) acid which is essentially vitamin C.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) are derived from naturally-occurring acids found in nature such as fruit, sugar cane and milk.
HOW DO AHAS IMPROVE YOUR SKIN?
EXFOLIATES - AHAs break down the intercellular bonds or glue-like substance that binds to dead skin cells allowing the outer layer of dead cells to gently slough or fall off. This exfoliation process also prevents the blocking of pores.
STIMULATES NEW CELL PRODUCTION - AHAs stimulate the production of new skin cells to come to the surface faster increasing cell turnover time. AHAs accelerate the emergence of young, healthier-looking cells to the surface by removing impurities and accumulated cell debris.
PROMOTES PRODUCTION OF COLLAGEN - The application of AHAs affect both the surface layer of skin and the deeper dermis layer. AHAs increase epidermal and dermal firmness and thickness, evening out fine lines and wrinkles.
REDUCES APPEARANCE OF AGE SPOTS - AHAs reverse the appearance of aging over time by reducing darkened sun and age spots.
INCREASES MOISTURIZING ACTION - AHAs act as humectants by absorbing moisture from the atmosphere. These hydrated AHAs increase the water content of the skin thus moisturizing the outer layer of the epidermis.
Alpha-hydroxy acids are commonly found and isolated from fruits of all sorts. That is why they are referred to as fruit acids. For example, malic acid is found in apples, citric acid can be isolated from most all citrus fruits and glycolic acid is commonly found in honey or sugar cane. Another source of AHAs is from the fermentation of natural products. Lactic acid is found in milk that has soured, and tartaric acid can be isolated from fermented grapes (wine). It is this natural, feel good origin of alpha-hydroxy acids that make them so appealing. Couple this with the genuine hi-tech biochemistry that they exhibit and it is no mystery as to why they are so popular today.
There are many skincare products containg AHAs.For example L'oreal exfotonic and I think other lines too like neutrogena, garnier etc.Go to a drugstore and ask someone to help you if you want to find sth really good!
Please be patient and stick with this program for at least 6-12months.That's how I forgot about mines which were red and white ones of 8 years due to growth spurt in puberty.Good luck!Ask me whatever you want and I would love to learn your results!
PS:i forgot to tell you that you must use the collagen/elastin cream twice a day and the more often you rub vitamin E to your stretch marks the better it is.Supplementation with vitamin E and zinc would also be ideal.
