just wanted to know if performing the BIG 3 (squats, bench, deadlifts) with dbs is any different than with a bb. for squats and deadlifts dbs seem less taxing on the body, but are they do workout ur grip more. any other differences? does anyone just dumped bb for db or alternate every few workouts?

I've never really been able to tell the difference between db squats and db deads. Good exercise, though. I don't do it very often......at all......but it's solid.
I do a lot of incline, flat, and decline db pressing. Rarely use a bb for decline, never use a bar for flat, and do a lot of bb incline work.Meet PRs @220

from my experience:
Dumbell bench is better than bb... especially on a 25 D incline
Deadlifts: dumbells defeat the purpuse of the exercise HOWEVER you can really isolate your back when you keep the dumbells at the side of your body
Squats: definetly not dumbells, useless for the quads... and for the smith-machine haters, it has given me gains equal to that of barbell squats.
just my 2 cents

DB deadlifts are nice if you can find DBs that go that high. It's argued that hammer grip deads(trap bar deads) are the best option, so DB would have his effect. And imagine what they would do to your traps compared to conventional deads
As far as squats go, I've read that Dip belt squats over a space that has enough room to let the weight hang are really good.
