It has the highest content of naringin of all fruits, naringin comes into play for fat burning and it also makes other fat burning supplements work more efficient. I belive that it also prolonges the effects of coffeine when you drink coffe at the same time.
Bottom line, it makes fat loss easyer. It's not a huge step, but BB is really a puzzle, and you don't want to overlook the efects of naringin.Pain is my game! (I now recall this statement, as I'm fed up with pain)

Grapefruit causes 2.8 lbs more weight loss than placebo in a period of 12 weeks, in a study on the sedentary obese. Whoopeee. It also lowers insulin response, a good or bad thing depending on resting or trained state:

The effects of grapefruit on weight and insulin resistance: relationship to the metabolic syndrome.
Fujioka K, Greenway F, Sheard J, Ying Y.
Division of Endocrinology, Department of Nutrition and Metabolic Research, Scripps Clinic, La Jolla, California 92130, USA. fujioka.ken@scrippshealth.org
To study the effects of grapefruit and grapefruit products on body weight and metabolic syndrome, 91 obese patients were randomized to either placebo capsules and 7 ounces (207 mL) of apple juice, grapefruit capsules with 7 ounces (207 mL) of apple juice, 8 ounces (237 mL) of grapefruit juice with placebo capsule, or half of a fresh grapefruit with a placebo capsule three times a day before each meal. Metabolic syndrome parameters were measured at the beginning and end of 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, the fresh grapefruit group had lost 1.6 kg, the grapefruit juice group had lost 1.5 kg, the grapefruit capsule group had lost 1.1 kg, and the placebo group had lost 0.3 kg. The fresh grapefruit group lost significantly more weight than the placebo group (P < .05). A secondary analysis of those with the metabolic syndrome in the four treatment groups demonstrated a significantly greater weight loss in the grapefruit, grapefruit capsule, and grapefruit juice groups compared with placebo (P < .02). There was also a significant reduction in 2-hour post-glucose insulin level in the grapefruit group compared with placebo. Half of a fresh grapefruit eaten before meals was associated with significant weight loss. In metabolic syndrome patients the effect was also seen with grapefruit products. Insulin resistance was improved with fresh grapefruit. Although the mechanism of this weight loss is unknown it would appear reasonable to include grapefruit in a weight reduction diet.Clin Exp Pharmacol Physiol. 2006 Apr;33(4):310-4. Naringin does not alter caffeine pharmacokinetics, energy expenditure, or cardiovascular haemodynamics in humans following caffeine consumption.
Ballard TL, Halaweish FT, Stevermer CL, Agrawal P, Vukovich MD.
South Dakota Health Promotion and Research Program, Applied Physiology Laboratory, South Dakota State University, Brookings 57007, USA.
1. Naringin, a grapefruit constituent interacts with many medications including caffeine, a popular weight loss supplement. The purpose of the current study was to identify changes in caffeine pharmacokinetics, resting energy expenditure (REE), oxygen consumption (VO(2)) and respiratory exchange ratio (RER) after an acute dosage of caffeine and naringin. 2. Using a double-blinded, counterbalanced design, REE, VO(2), and RER were measured before and systematically for 8 h after a single dosage of caffeine (CAF, 200 mg) with and without naringin (100 mg (CN100) or 200 mg (CN200)) in 10 apparently healthy individuals. A standardized meal was provided following 240-minute measurements (400 kcals; 35 g carbohydrate; 27 g protein; 7 g fat). 3. Caffeine, CN100, CN200 did not alter VO(2) or VO(2) area under the curve (137 301 +/- 8318, 139 729 +/- 9300, 134 297 +/- 8318, mL/480 min). Resting energy expenditure (k/cals) was 10.0 +/- 1.4% higher with CAF versus CN200 (6.0 +/- 1.4%) and CN100 (6 +/- 1.5%) at 240 min (P = 0.07) which was then negated following a standardized meal. Percent change in RER from pre to 240 min and pre to 480 min was not different between the CAF, CN100, or CN200 (-0.2 +/- 1.7%, 1.7 +/- 1.7%, -2.8 +/- 1.9%). 4. Although caffeine alone suggests a trend of increased REE, the results of the present study indicate that concurrent consumption of caffeine with naringin in acute dosages does not affect RER, VO(2), and prevents the increase of REE in adult humans. The results suggest that the interaction of grapefruit juice and caffeine may be due to constituents of grapefruit juice other than naringin or in addition to naringin.

From the book..."The majority of caffeine and other alkaloids are metabolized by various enzymes such as CYP1A2, CYP2E1 and CYP3A4. However, naringin has been documented to inhibit CYP34A activity in human liver as well as CYP1A2. This means that naringin may increase the half life (extending its activity) of various alkaloids especially caffeine. Many fat burners utilize naringin for enhanced alkaloid effect. I got hooked on in it 10-11 years ago (old school) in the Cut Diet and since then, I have never dealt with anything else. I will allow oranges if necessary but they do not contain as much naringin as grapefruit. So unless you cannot stomach them at all, eat your grapefruit! I recommend sprinkling a packet or two of SplendaŪ on them.
In a recent study in La Jolla, CA grapefruit consumption was found to be associated with a reduction in weight. Moreover, 2-hour post-glucose insulin levels were significantly reduced among subjects consuming half a grapefruit with each meal, as compared with a placebo."Chuck Rudolph MEd, RD

It seems they only compare grapefruit to other meals or placebo. Whilst grapefruit would likely come on top, it would be interesting if the study compared it to say, apples or oranges for example.
I know an apple, eaten say 30 mins before a big carb meal can delay the glycemic response by upto 25-27% and apples for me are also more filling than grapefruit. People being filled up = eating less. I like grapefruit, but it would be interesting.Last edited by Steve_W; 07-08-2006 at 07:22 PM.

Are all grapefruits the same with regards to their naringin content? The yellow and the red ones?

so true......
ohhhhhhhhhhhhh
lets not forget thatre is no single atudy out there showing that normal physilogical levels of insulin will make one fat or inhibit fat loss.........all studies done showing this effects were done on hyperinsulinemia state either by infusion or by metabolic syndrome....
