So what's the general consenus for a person to take?

I'm not really looking into any creatine products in the near future, but I do want a good overall supplement idea of what I should take

    -Multi Vitamins
    -Whey Protein
    -Fish Oil
-Glutamine? To be honest I don't know much of it but I see it get tossed around here and there.

Is there anything wrong? Something missing? Something not worth being here?

    Thanks.

Multi and fish oil is the basics if you are starting out. Keep lifting and eating hard. After a while when you plataue you can try creatine or other things. But I would keep it simple for right now.

Yep, I'de probably add whey in there to. Stick to the basics bro. Lots of clean eating and intense training will suffice when just getting into this sport. You picked up a multi yet?

I didn't take creatine or an NO product 2 years after I started working out. Now thats not too say that you shouldn't take it until this time, but honestly starting out it isn't needed. Save it for a little bit down the road. Who knows you might hate it and stop working out, then just have a bunch of supplements collecting dust. Save it for when and if you know you'll make them count!

Yeah you're right. NO products should be used after you get some lifting experience. But I'd recommend creatine from day 1.

I'm no newbie, heh. I guess I made myself look that way. I've been in the game for almost a year now, I just haven't been too into the supplement side just yet. I've been taking whey for about 5 months now.

I don't know what's the best Multi and Fish oil product to take, though. Any tips for that? A good price/quality combo, if there is such a thing. The "Optimum Nutrition" of Fish Oil and Multi, if you will. And what's NO? and how about Glutamine?

Optimum Nutrition is fine. Fish oil is fish oil bro. If you have a little more to spend, I'de possibly go with Orange Triad by Controlled Labs for my multi-vitamine purposes. Lots of great reviews, solid profile, and getting more than just a multi.

This is great advice, thanks guys you're potentially saving me a ton of ca$h until I get going again. My question is since I'm getting back into a training plan after nearly 2 years out with knee problems is there a need for L-carnitine or any other extra aminos? My immediate goal getting back into my training is to drop 8%-10% bodyfat and I am currently using:
    *ON Optimens multi
    *ON fish oil
    *Higher Power CLA
    *Higher Power chromium
    *ON glucosamine/msm
    *ON 100% whey
    *Isatori MX-LS7
Thanks again for the sound advice.

whey, multi, fish oil, flax seed oil. those are the absolute essentials.

    save creatine/NO for later on.

Basics IMO would be multi, fishoil (unless you eat alot of fish), and whey protein. The next step would be a creatine product. If you have joint issues, you could also look into a glucosamine product.

I do not think that an NO product is a basic or essential. NO is something that you can take to give a nice psychological boost and a good pump, but your gains will not be hindered if you do not take one.

i'd agree...stick with a good multi (if you have cash, Orange Triad, or Animal Pack), Fish oil, and whey.
no need for creatine yet, especially if you don't drink much water...

What's some good fish oil? I know someone said fish oil is fish oil, but what's the best bang for the buck...

And I still don't know what NO is. If someone can explain what that is I'd be grateful.

I use Optimum Nutrition's fish oil, but really fish oil is just that, fish oil. I beleive ON, however, is pretty cheap off bb.com. NO type products are supplements people take to increase energy and the "pumps" you get in a gym. By no mean is a NO product essential for growth. If I was you, I would purchase Optimum Nutrition's fish oil, a good multi vitamin (Controlled Labs Orange Triad, NOW Adam, and Animal Pak all get good reviews), Whey and possibly Cassein protein (Optimum Nutrition is fine here as well), and possibly a creatine (simple creatine mono, Green Magnitude, SizeON, get good reviews as well).

I use ON fish oil, in fact I use quite a bit of ON products because they are affordable and seem to be a reputable company.

    thanks.
Excellent choices man. All of those are quality products from quality companies. Some people feel the Animal Pak is a little too expensive for a multi, but if you are willing to hand over the cash, its a fantastic option. Good luck man.

Well to be honest I don't see why Animal Pak is so expensive. It cost me 25 dollars for one pack for 44 days, which is about 60 cents a day. Getting all your vitamins and nutrients at the best possible quality for a workout for only 60 cents a day? Why not. Not as bad as people buying a bottle of water every day at the gym...but hey, that's just my reasoning on it.

NO stands for Nitric Oxide. It's supposed to give you a great pump--the idea being that more blood flowing to your muscles delivers more nutrients and more gains--during your workouts. Though I've never used it, I'll probably give it a try sometime down the road.

    Question

My doc wants to put me on some cholesterol meds (for sky high triglycerides) that I am not excited about, in fact I'm pretty much not going to take them with the list of side effects like gallstones, pancreatic tumors, etc. Of course this means an extreme change of my program with a higher emphasis on losing the spare tire :-(

I found this description for L-carnitine:

"L-carnitine transfers long-chain fatty acids, such as triglycerides into mitochondria (a cell's energy powerhouse), where they may be oxidized to produce energy.

Sounds good to me, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has experience or opinions about this supplement. Thanks :-)
