Progress for what? For my goals:

    Ice cream
    Pasta
    White bread
    White Rice
    Chocolate

You've got to be kidding about the milk thing, or atleast I hope you are, Milk is fine up until about 2-3 weeks before a contest. And all the rest on your list is fine to eat first thing in the morning, or post-workout.

I would just say these few things (but again this depends on body type and goals).

    Fast food
    Icecream/candy

Alcohol (this serves no purpose no matter what your goals and body type, and it drops test levels which stops protein synthesis.)

I have to disagree with this, but it depends is the OP is cutting or bulking. Since I am bulking I use a 50/50 dextrose maltodextrin mix for post-workout, I eat wheat bread whenever I want, I don't see why white rice is so bad I eat that as well, and there is nothing wrong with a fast food cheat meal every now and again. I think the only thing that can kill someone's progress is if they are eating too many calories over their maintenance in the first place. Lastly, milk isn't bad at all that is one of those bodybuilding myths that someone should avoid milk. I am not a professional bodybuilder so I don't know if milk is ruled out around contest time but I welcome 3 glasses of milk a day.

And some of the items people are listing are useful for me sometimes, but not usually. White rice, for instance, is sometimes part of a refeed for me.

Ice cream was a big problem until I figured out that whole measuring cup thing.

Here we go, the deadly 5 foods that will hinder your progress.

    1. Flour. White or whole grain makes no difference. Whole grain is just the lesser of two evils.

    2. Hydrogenated oils, also known as trans fats. More man made poison imo.

    3. High Fructose corn syrup, man developed this poison to keep it's endomorphic population in check, and keep the medical industry booming.

    4. Any type of food that is high in fat and high gi carbohydrate. Insulin gets spiked, fat gets sucked in. Doesn't matter if you're cutting or bulking, you probably don't want to do it.

    5. Alcoholic beverages. More man made poison which will do nothing but hinder progress/gains for a multitude of reasons.
I've gained and lost over 100lbs more times than any man alive should. Do as I say and not as I do.

I dunno why you would put down milk. But i had a post up today about soy v. dairy milk. And if you drink alot of milk i personally like soy cause it is the same as skim but it is creamy... Plus helps with cancer, lowers estrogen levels... (according to a report i read on that same thread.) Im starting to become a big fan of soy.

you have it reversed... soy protein raises estrogen levels in men, which is why most of us avoid it like the plague...

yes sir, yours did... and i found this...

    Endocrine Function

Measures of endocrine function were reported from 50 trials in 47 articles. Five studies with a total of 179 participants reported testosterone levels in healthy males before and after soy consumption. Four of these trials found a statistically non-significant decrease in testosterone levels. The small total number of subjects as well as the low quality of these studies precluded any meaningful conclusion. No statistically significant effect was found on FSH level, which is commonly measured in the initial evaluation of male and female infertility; results were conflicting.

there are articles on here about milk so do a search. i use milk since im bulking, but even skim milk has a large amount of sugar in it. (cant remember exactly but look at your jug and you'll see) i wouldnt use anything above skim, but thats jsut my opinion. obviously our bodies need sugar, but there are better forms out there. i havent heard that soy increases estrogen? thats interesting ill have to look farther into that

From the article you just linked me to...

    Conclusions

Most of the studies evaluated the effects of soy on various biomarkers or measures, not clinical outcomes, although, several of the endpoints, such as blood pressure, LDL, and bone mineral density, do have known meaningful correlations with clinical outcomes. Cardiovascular surrogate endpoints were assessed by the largest number of studies. Overall, soy was found to have a small effect on lipids. However, the duration of these studies were generally short, and it is uncertain whether the results would be sustained. No study evaluated clinical cardiovascular disease.

Reduction of hot flashes by soy was seen in trials involving post-menopausal and peri-menopausal women. Most of the trials lasted only 3 to 4 months, thus the long-term benefits remain unclear. In addition, different measurements were used to assess benefits across studies making comparisons and synthesis difficult. Soy phytoestrogens are seen by some as an alternative to estrogen therapy to treat post-menopausal symptoms. However, the estrogenic effect of soy in potentially promoting tumor recurrence raises the concern for its use by breast cancer survivors. The current literature provides no data to address this issue.

The evidence does not support an effect of soy products on endocrine function, menstrual cycle length, or bone health; although evidence was often limited and of poor quality. No study evaluated clinical endocrine or bone disease.

I linked you to search engine results, so that you can conduct your own research and formulate your own opinions and beliefs like the majority of us have. No one is telling you soy is bad "just cos someone else said it". The majority of people who willingly give advice on matters usually spend a great deal of time seeking the truth for themselves before hand.

All things in research are shades of gray, and the results of research are HIGHLY dependent on the corporations funding said research....

sugar and estrogen aside, casein protein is much more valuable to a bodybuilder than soy protein.

Haha, well.... there comes a point in life where you have to make a decision on what you want and what makes you happy.

Do you feel happier drinking the soy? or do you feel happier not drinking it knowing that you've escaped possible hinderance? That ultimately is your answer...

Rep points to you, because you're realistic
