100+ Push ups
100 pushups is a milestone and one I want to achieve. I am currently only at about 30 and want to hugley increase the amount I can do because I am going into the army next year and have my heart set on the SAS.
Does anyone know any exercises I could start including into my normal workout in the gym that will help me.
Or tips and tricks that will help me.
Or even a workout programme.
??????????????????????????????

Well you could start by doing push ups
Other than that, lots of benching and dipping.

You will only get more pushups by performing a pushup program. Here is one that will help you meet your goals and then some: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...78261325&itm=3

I can hit 100 pushups in just under a minute
I NEVER EVER EVER do pushups
greasing the groove is one way to get good at pushups.
getting so damn strong that doing a pushup feels like benchpressing a feather is another way (my preferred method)

Although I can't do it now, I worked my way up to 100+ by doing them every second day and just working towards that goal. Right now I can do around 70 consecutive push ups and they are still a part of my routine. I usually do 3 sets to failure after I've done my chest routine.

100 in one minute! You must have pushed back your lactate threshold some over the years. Are those chest to floor? I don't remember the ROM that the military requires.

Look for my post, about 6 or 7down. from the top.
The program is DESIGNED to get you to 100reps. If your not there in the 2weeks period, take a week to two weeks off, from pushups and do other excersizes.
Pavel Tsatsouline wrote the article with the program in it, and he recommends doing 2weeks pushups than 2weeks pullups or something like that. However, you can do pullups at the same time, as I mensioned in the actual program that I am doing.
One thing, don't sacrifice quality for quantity, because if your ever tested to do alot of pushups, if ur quality sucks, they won't count, make sure there good reps.
Good luck.
Also, never go to FAILURE, with pushups, just going to slow down the procress. The only days that you test your maxes with the program are mondays.

no lactate threshold at all, really.
Once I start to feel a burn, I die. I can do them extremely fast, and yes that is chest to floor (I use a wide hand spacing, so I have to go to the floor to get low enough)
The idea is to make them so easy that they don't produce lactic acid, or...my way...to do them so fast that you "win the race" and get a ton of pushups done before the lactic acid kicks in

i personally can do 70+ pushups on a good day. my advice is go join the military, they will make sure that you will be able to do the most pushups that your body can handle and then some.

Yup - a few years back at our UCA coed cheer camp in Milwaukee [make all the idiotic wisecracks you want, I'm secure in my masculinity], while the girls were learning their dances the guys competed in the "testosterone olympics." One of the events was a contest to see who could do the most push-ups in a minute. I volunteered to go up for my team; I hit 98 and thought I heard the guy w/the bullhorn say stop. Turns out it was just someone screaming for a guy on his team [it was louder than hell in there w/hundreds of guys yelling and counting]. I actually had about 5 more seconds left, which annoyed me because I could've broken 100 easily.
Anyway, my point is that I never did/do push-ups in the gym either, yet I was still able to knock out 100 of them when it came down to it. Training w/push-ups will certainly help, but I think that heavy db/bb bench will probably benefit you more in the long run. Just don't bulk up so much and get so fat that your bodyweight holds you back, lol.

shoulders are often neglected in pushups. If you have strong RC's, that'll help a lot, so do a lot of internal and external rotations. Chest fatigue is of course a big factor, so doing low weight high rep bench press could be helpful etc etc

We have to do 100 before and after practice, and then some in between for wrestling. We do it in sets of 25 alternating between puchups and situps/v-ups. The coaches will not count them if you don't do them right, so basically doing that helped increase the ammount I could do. At the beggining of the season, my first year, i was dead after the first set.

lots of pushups is about practice and pattern memorization, not heavy benching or dipping.

When I was about 14 I did pushups everyday and got up to 98 (never hit the century mark), then when I got into high school and taking weight lifting I never did pushups again. A few weeks ago I wanted to see how many I could do and did 65. Seven years older and a lot bigger and can do much less. If you want to be able to do a lot of pushups, you have to workout with them.

Freshman year of college rugby, during hands drills if the ball was dropped the whole team had 10 pushups...well we ended up doing it like 20 times but eventually we had solid ball handling when it came to the games, especially the rainy ones. It was a good thing solid form wasnt required, as long as it wasnt girl pushups...i was sore for days.

hey gents, just in case any of you guys are wondering what the SAS is, and how hard it is, get these books by: ANDY MCNAB, 2 books he wrote called : Bravo Two Zero and Immediate Action, but of which are NON-FICTION. just so you know push ups is not even a start if you wanna succeed in that field. after reading the books you'll learn that humping a damn rucksack mile after mile is what it really comes down too. believe it or not alot of muscle bound guys don't make that kind of training, schools like that require you to be a tri-athlete. never humped a ruck before, well lets just say its intense..lol. anyway Mcnab wrote these books and their real and too the point if you even question going into the special operations field...Jason

Train at tempo..2/1/1
Every sunday I do a pyramid- 1 rest 2 rest 3 rest etc.. up to 25 and then back down to 1. Comes out to 645. All done at tempo. Takes about 30 minutes depending on how good im feeling. Today I finished in 33 minutes. Hasnt affected my bench whatsoever..
I was an Army Ranger so I know just a little bit about doing pushups

In American special forces you never see big guys. Fit and maybe ripped but a true bodybuilder couldn't handle the physical stress of doing it. Really the only practical use of being really huge is just to move huge amounts of weight in the gym.

You are correct for the most part but we had some pretty f'ing huge guys in our unit. There were also a few that you might even call "fat". True soldiers though.
