I just started taking Creatine again after a 12 week layoff. I'm suddenly getting lots of blood in my stool. This didnt happen before and Im taking the same dosage...about 3-8g a day with grape juice. Im taking the same brand and everything.
Any clues what's going on? When I stop taking it for a day or two- the blood goes away. This sucks- I love this stuff but bloody crap cant be good.

I doubt creatine will do that. Get medical help.

I just pray that if the doctor doesn't know..he admits it and doesn't just put the blame on creatine. It's bad enough that people look at everything outside of a "One-A-Day" as a steroid. Ya' know?? Next thing, you'll see all over the news that creatine causes bloody stool and should be taken off of the shelves.
No excuses...it may be hard to FIND time..but how willing are you to work to MAKE time??

In many cases it's hemorrhoids, which typically are harmless. However, it could also signal more serious bleeding farther up the intestinal tract, so get it checked immediately.
And if I were you I wouldn't mention the creatine.

It also Could be Ulcerative Colitis, I had the same problem and still do . It just comes back in episodes. It doesn't have anything to do with creatine, it may aggravate it some, but it isnt causing it. So if its not hemphroids, it could be colitis.

Going to the Dr...
OK- I'm fairly convinced that I need to see a Dr. I was certain it was the creatine since it appears and dissapears with creatine usage.
Thanks for your help everyone.

Had the same problem and went to the doctor. He advised that cratine will cause some dehydrating thus producing more hard stools which can cause tears in the rectal area which he confirmed through colonoscopy (NOT FUN!!!). In the future he advised one way to check to alleviate some fear is to check if the blood in the stool is outside the stool or actually mixed into the stool. If it's outside the stool or blood is in the water in toilet then most likely caused by a tear. If the blood is mixed into the stool then this is amost likely a much more serious problem.
Sorry to be so graphic but I had a close relative die from colon cancer and when I started showing blood in the stool I freaked. Hope this helps a little.God gave Noah the Rainbow sign. No more water, the Fire next time

Saw the Doc today...
He really didnt say what it was- he gave me a few possibilities but referred me to a rectal dr- what a fun job that must be. He did a bit of poking(NOT FUN) and didnt feel any hemorriods.
He said most likely a tear or colitis(sp?). I didnt mention the creatine bc I didnt need a lecture.
The blood is outside the stool thank god and no blood is lingering- so that appears to be a good thing.
Thanks to all for the posts- all this talk about my anus is starting to get a bit embarrassing. But I get a bit nervous when I see blood coming out of my ass.

You should be able to tell by the color also.

Same problem dude.
I started taking Creatine after each workout about a week and a half ago. The night before last, I notice alot of blood in my stool, and it freaked me the F**k out. I don't have medical insurance, so I rushed down and googled it. Good thing I found this forum, otherwise I would've had to spend thousands on a colonoscopy. Upon further research, I found out that my problem was a combination of two things. One, I was in the loading phase (therefore I was taking more than the recommended amount) and two, I was enjoying the week after my twenty-first birthday (hence a sh*t load of beer, nightly). The problem with these two things in unison, is that creatine requires better than average hydration. I was drinking more than enough water during the day, but once eight o' clock rolled around I was chugging down the brews (further dehydrating myself). According to WebMd, the lack of hydration hardened the stools, and caused small tears in my small intestines. Anyways, I have discontinued my use of the creatine. I think I'll try the whole natural bodybuilding and just use whey. Sorry to anyone who was grossed out, but it's a real thing, and it might help somebody like me who almost took a cruise to the emergancy room. Peace~ P.S. The brand I used was "Six Star Muscle" from Walmart.

did a search on google and found this thread. i've developed a hemorrhoid. i just started using Creatine for the 1st time ever on August 22 and the hemorrhoid developed within a month after that. i been drinking at least 1 gallon a day right from the start since my bro and his friend developed kidney stones from creatine use which i wanted to avoid. it's not one of those painful types but i think i'll layoff the creatine for a few weeks and see if it goes away.

I felt compelled to respond as well. I had a suspicion it had to do with the creatine because each time I start up on it, a couple days later there'll be bright red blood in the bowl.
It's probably hardened stool scraping the ol' hemmies.
Either way, go get checked. It's not worth taking a chance.

Same Problem
I have had the same problem...I had blood in my stool today twice. Bright Red. Stool was quite solid looking. Just started loading creatine about a week ago. Not a lot of blood but enough to notice. I don't know if I have hemorrhoid though because I have no pain or irritation. I started chugging water and if it doesn't go away by friday I'm hittin up the ole' doc. I also take Nitric Oxide which increases vascularity and may make the blood passages in the intestines swell just a bit? Anyways, glad this forum existed, otherwise I was about to freak out somethin bad.

I have been taking creatine for 2 months now (SizeOn Maximum Performance) and just today I had bright red liquidy stool. I had solid normal colored stool this morning before taking the creatine. I had three eggs and toast for breakfast and then took the drink down afterwards during my workout. I am hoping this is what has caused me to have bright red stool. I am going to stop taking the creatine for now and see what happens. I will post back my results. If it continues I will have to make my way to the doctor...

Definitely stop taking it because of the blood and because Creatine doesn't work.

Fresh blood on stool is a usual indication of a lower GI bleed, as dark stool is an indication of an upper GI bleed. Most of the time, hemorrhoids is the culprit, but I would give a call to your Dr and tell him everything.

Blood In Stool.
Its True The Creatine Does Make You Have Blood In The Stool. My Friend Never Had Blood In His Stool Until He Started Taking Creatine Then My Other Friend Started To Take It And He Also Got Blood On His Stool. The Creatine Makes You Have Blood On The Stool But Dont Know Why???? It Happens To Certain People Not Everyone Gets The Effect Because Everyone Body Is Different.
