im no nutritionist but i would try to add some complex carbs such as oats for your pre-workout meal - i sometimes have a lack of appetite before early morning lifts so maybe even 1/2 cup of oats, 1-2 scoop of whey would be better than just a banana/whey - just my opinion goodluck

most instant oat packets contain a ****load of sugar - just get the regular quaker oat kind (mix with sugar free syrup or natural pb to make it tasty) and id try to down that an hour before u workout - immediately after i workout i try to take in 20-30 grams of whey and 30-40 grams of a simple carb and then within an hr il have another meal with complex carbs and protein - i dont know the exact science or timing but this is what works for me and i would not worry about getting bloated because whereas pre workout nutrition is important, post workout nutrition is crucial.

I personally like to eat solid food for breakfast whether I work out that day or not. A whey protein shake is best saved for immediately after workout.
