Oh, I just need to learn more about nutrition! As a SM competitor, I have ignored nutrition for so long. But now that I am older, I am beginning to realize how badly I have been holding myself back. And nobody knows nutrition better than bodybuilders, especially bodybuilders with PhD's in nutrition!
I like to give everyone their due. When it comes to flexibility, I go to my MMA brothers. Strength, I go to my PLing friends. Nutrition is definitely the area in which bodybuilders punk everyone.
Here is a question: can your diet or hydration levels affect how quickly you build up lactic acid? Is that a stupid question?

i do not know, however the idea that lactate causes fatigue is actually a myth, they have shown at physiological temperatures, lactate does not cause fatigue... it's actually phosphate ion build up and hydrogen ion build up from ATP breakdown that inhibits muscle function by preventing calcium channels in the sarcoplasmic reticulum from functioning properly

Layne, I've been waiting on more info from your research. That was a great presentation. Some of the information was of course way beyond me..but I got the gist of it. I know you are still doing further research, so you can't give an ultimate answer, but suppose we want to be guinea pigs. Can you remind us of what you are doing?
If I recall correctly it's: 5 meals spaced at least 4 hours apart. 1-2 scoops xtend inbetween meals. Additional Xtend around training.
I believe I saw you say a protocol like this helped you add size while staying leaner than you have been in the past.Realize that anyone with an affiliation to a supplement company in their signature has ulterior motives when making recommendations. I appreciate that I myself don't wake up in the middle of the night..so I may try it out, cut my meals from 6 to 5. It would really free up my day as well Now question..how far apart were your pre and post workout meals? Edit: you already told me that..haha.
some people wake up anyway.Realize that anyone with an affiliation to a supplement company in their signature has ulterior motives when making recommendations. They're primarily concerned with pushing their products. Not your safety or what's best for you.

awesome, I'm going to try it out as soon as this first summer semester is over.
Question though, do you find that you have to eat a lot of carbs and fats together? I feel the meal combining thing has been blown out of proportion, but I still don't like the idea of a lot of carbs with a lot of fat. If you are keeping pre and post workout meals low in fat, do the other 3 get pretty high. Any thoughts on how high is to high?Realize that anyone with an affiliation to a supplement company in their signature has ulterior motives when making recommendations. not really, my fat is about 65g/day so the biggest carb fat meal is like 10g fat, 50g carbs which isn't a big deal

thanks.
you are still having a mid-night meal though. For those of us who sleep straight through the night..would the higher fat to carb be a problem..
or because we aren't getting the meal in the middle of the night..would we lose some effectiveness from keeping MPS constantly elevated?
I know it's not a final plan, but I'm wondering if you have anyone try this who eats just 5.Realize that anyone with an affiliation to a supplement company in their signature has ulterior motives when making recommendations.
