Thumbs up More Reasons To Eat Peanut Butter...

I just came across this article on another supplement site, but it originally came from Coxnews. I know there's like 3 other PB threads, but I did'nt want this to get lost in the mix. It's a quick read, enjoy.

Stick with Peanut Butter: It May Shield Against Diabetes

    Great news, peanut lovers.

Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health reported recently that eating a tablespoon of peanut butter or a serving of peanuts or other nuts five or more times a week reduces your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

The study showed that women who eat five tablespoons of peanut butter each week can reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by almost 20 percent. Further, the more you consume, the greater the protective effect.

The research included more than 83,000 female nurses who were followed for an average of 16 years in the Brigham and Women's Hospital-based Nurses' Health Study. The women in the study completed food frequency questionnaires about every four years between 1980 and 1996 and had no history of diabetes, cardiovascular disease or cancer.

    NEWS ON PROSTATE CANCER

In other research at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, men with prostate cancer who undergo radiation therapy treatment and subsequently relapse were found to be able to predict the pace of their disease accurately with a new interpretation of the changing levels of a certain protein in their blood.

Prostate-specific antigen (or PSA) is a protein made by prostate cells. PSA levels rise in people with prostate cancer. Though it is understood that elevated PSA levels is an indication of a patient's cancer worsening, determining what to do has been worrisome.

The new study, published in the Dec. 1 issue of the Journal of Oncology, determined that men who experience a doubling of their PSA level in the first year after receiving radiation therapy are at greatest risk of dying from the disease and should probably consider more aggressive treatment options.
