Does it work?
Are you making progress with your current scheme? If you are, keep doing it. If you are not, change it.aut viam inveniam aut faciam

it ins't as simple as all that
you have to look at Volume INtensity, Frequency AND Recovery all in relation to each other to know if x workout plan is too much or too little
unfortunately as humans we don't have score cards we can look at like a D&D charicter does so we have to lift a certain way and if it works we know it works
if it dosn't we know it dosn't
all we got is trial and error to workout theory

IMO 9 is not too much, but rather exactly the right amount. I do 9 sets for bis and tris too. But then again, different things work for different people. For example, someone told me to do 9 instead of 12 sets for chest, and my gains suffered when I tried it. So what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another. Go with whatever works for you, and if this works by all means stick with it.

I would probably keep it in the 6 set range. 8 at most. I mean if you think about it, you would normally do about 3-6 sets of arm exercises. But thats if you are training it on back or chest where it is worked by the larger muscle. When arms has its own day, it is also worked by back (biceps) and chest (triceps) so you don't really need to many sets.

i do between 8-10 a piece...
here is my workout:
Barbell Curls: 4x5-8
Narrow-Grip Bench: 4x5-8
EZ-Bar Preacher Curls: 4x6-10
Dips: 4x6-10
1-Arm Spider Curls: 3x8-12
Overhead Dumbell Extension: 3x8-12
This is NOT going to overtrain you... arms are a pretty small bodypart, and the human body designed to take some abuse and overcompensate... Unless you guys have absolutely NO recovery ability, you can do this without overtraining.
