I've always seen television shows with people hopping in the steam room and coming out super skinny, but how much does it really help sitting in the steam room? My gym has a steam room and I was gonna start using it daily, is this useful in losing weight?

search "calories burnt in sauna" up on google dude... i've read a few sites that sitting in a sauna for 30 mins burns up to 600 calories.. some serious burnage.

Yes, sites that sell saunas will tell you all sorts of crazy things.
There's nothing wrong with a little sauna time, and could very well be a very healthy thing to do. However, it's certainly not burning calories at any sort of rate that would allow you to give up cardio."You can't change the past, but you can change the future."

If you've ever watched UFC on Spike TV, you'll see how they use saunas to cut weight by generally being unsafe as hell by peddling on a stationary bike, while wearing a rubber suit, while in a sauna, in order to cut weight for a fight. Generally, you'll be so weak from losing so much water/muscle, it'll suck. But if you don't plan on doing sauna jumping jacks for six hours straight, you'll probably be fine.

^^^^ Exactly, but the fighters put the weight right back on for the fight. The weigh-in is the day before the fight, so the fighters will lose as much water weight as possible to get to the required limit. Matt Hughes weighs in at 170 lbs because that's his weight class, but by the time he gets to the octagon, he's up around 185 lbs at least. In the last UFC I saw, one fighter (can't remember his name) actually put on 30 lbs in the 24 hours after the weigh in!!
So really, time in the sauna/steamroom might have some benefits (sweating out the bad and whatnot), but it won't lead to any permanent fat/weight loss.New music and video up! www.daysleftmusic.com

isnt it like when you're in the steam room or sauna, it gets very hot or warm in there so you gasp for air and speeds up your metabolism because it hot, so you'll burn some calories?....when it hot i breath harder...im just wondering never ttried the saunas....

to answer your question... yes it will help you loose weight.
but... if thats all you plan to do... dont expect to keep any of the weight off. it will only help to drop your weight if you put in the time on the cardio as well.
i used it before a fight a few times. i would stay in there for about 2-3 hours... but as soon as i was done i would have a pedia-sure and a water waiting for me so i wouldnt black out.
but the weight loss wont last.
