Arginine
Ive been reading alot about arginine , and also checking out different brands, even trying a few, (vaso x and six stars' brand). Well Im gonna be starting a new phase of training next week, and wanted to try out a little supplement timing stack I came across in a magazine. Basically its like this:
30-60 min before training:
3-5 grams of arginine
5 grams of glutamine
0-30 min before training:
20 grams of protein
40 grams of carbs
3-5 grams of creatine
0 min after training
5-10 grams of leucine
5 grams of glutamine
30-60 min after training
40 grams of protein
40-80 grams of carbs
3-5 grams creatine
now the reason I brought up arginine is because it seemed to be the most expensive supplement on the list as far as price per gram or serving goes....and I dont have alot of money to spend on supplements, so Im trying to get the best value for my money. As far as the few NO products Ive tried, they seem to have a "lasting pump", but costs about double what I could pay for just an Arginine product like NOW or Higher Power. I guess what I need to know is if anyone has had success with either of those brands? Are they just as good as the NO products with the lasting pump? And hey, if you know of another brand of pure arginine, that would help as well. Also if anyone thinks theres something I could omit from my list or even add for that matter.....Im looking to start this phase Monday(6-12-06) so I have a couple of days to get some feedback. Thanks ahead of time.....

here is my view, the lasting "pump" is useless except for physical appearances, so who cares, what you want are results. as for your magazine, drop the glutamine, and go with something like this, still keeping in line with the magazine...
45-60 min before training:
20 grams of protein
40 grams of carbs
5 grams of creatine
30 min before training
3-5 grams of arginine
30 min after training
40 grams of protein
80 grams of carbs
5-10 grams leucine
5 grams creatine

Well, HERE (if you are going to buy anything from there Private Message me and I can get you a discount) is an L-Arginine powder that is relatively cheap, but I can vouch for the quality of their products.
Maybe look into Citrulline Malate instead of the L-Arginine though, I recall reading somewhere that Citrulline Malate raises blood plasma L-Arg levels more than supplementing with L-Arg does. Don't quote me on that, though. I'll try to find out where I read that to verify it and post back in a little bit.
Like nni said, you can get away with dropping the Glutamine, you'll save yourself a good amount of money. I completely left out Leucine.

Arginine(L-Arginine) For Your Health
L-Arginine is a semi-essential amino acid synthesized by the body from ornithine. Arginine supports protein synthesis as it is involved in the transport and storage of nitrogen. Arginine is important for proper physical performance because it is used by the body to produce creatine. L-Arginine promotes muscle-building activity in the body by increasing levels of anabolic (growth-promoting) hormones such as insulin and growth hormone. Arginine is necessary for the execution of many physiological processes. Supplementation with L-arginine has significantly increased the quantity and cytotoxic activity of NK cells and lymphokine-activated cells in patients with breast cancer. 314GMO:
I'm using the EXACT same supplement timing idea you're using, with the addition of two scoops of Muscle Milk before bed (a slower-release protein than typical whey protein - it's insanely expensive, at least for me, so I'm gonna start looking into cheaper alternatives soon).
I'm getting pretty decent results for being a complete newbie - I wonder how you're doing with your try at this.
Oh yeah, arginine was one of the cheapest things on the list - BB.com sells 1 pound of l-arginine for $22.99, and when you're taking 5 grams per lifting day, one pound should last for quite a while.
Leucine was the most expensive item on the list, at $19.79 for 300 grams of SciFit BCAA Powder - considering I have to use 10 grams of the powder to get 4.6 grams of Leucine, that 300 grams probably won't last as long as the pound of arginine
I bought the glutamine cheap at Wal-Mart, fer goodness' sake. Creatine is also pretty inexpensive in the grand scheme of things.
I liked this supplementation idea because it sounded pretty basic - I didn't wanna get involved in buying absolute tons of stuff. It's a stretch for me to afford what I'm doing now.
