How much lifting? How much cardio?

Me and my girlfriend starting working out. Im trying to gain muscle and shes trying to lose weight. She wants to trim down her thighs, and get her stomach area in good shape. Trim the waist size a bit also. Shes about 5'7, dont know her weight but shes about a size 18-20. How often should she be lifting weights? 3 days a week good enough? How often for cardio? Is it best to cardio on the non lifting days?

    Hey NONseNse,

Since your trying to gain muscle try and hit the gym 3 times a week lifting heavy weight and having your diet in check eating enough protein. You should probably try and get 2 light cardio days in aswell to try keep the bf low ( but this is totally dependant on how much you want to bulk up)

Your girlfriend on the other hand should try and do alot of cardio, obviously she must build her way up to an optimum ammount. For example she could start at 3 days and work her way up to 5 days a week increasing intensity and time and blah blah lol. Your girlfriend should use light weight high reps to build up muscular endurance ( not to cut that is a myth, "cut" is totally dependant on how strict your diet is) and she could run on the non-gym and gym days.

I personally suggest that your girlfriend runs in the morning before breakfast and also follows a rule of the "Carb Cut-Off" ( principle of DC Training ) wich basically means for her not to eat carbs after a certain time in the night.

As for what type of cardio, thats up to choice, nobody enjoys running to begin with and it takes time to drag your ass out of bed to run in the morning but just try and keep her motivated and hopefully both of you will see the benefits in time.

lol to the last sentence.. there are lots of myths in here, perhaps before giving more advice about female training you should read through these articles on fitness myths.
