BCAA response
Sry about this guys. I had an idea while I was taking my shower tonight. It just hit me smack in the face. Kinda weird, but this may be a newb idea and I'm probably stupid but please just hear me out and correct me.
I recently went over the mega-dosing BCAA thread. A big drop in bodyfat happened w/in the 1st week of the BCAA dosing. Heck, people who havn't even mega-dosed have lost bodyfat and gained muscle w/in the 1st week. (can't wait to get me some xtend!!) But I got to thinking about how our body becomes accustomed to things..(homeostasis and what not...u get it) We switch up our training so we don't stall our training < a perfect example.
Well what if you cycled BCAAs? Would that have any effects. What about with Mega-dosing. I'd like to see a study on that (Derek, Layne,...I'm not trying to get u guys to go out and buy a buttload of xtend so don't get mad)
Again, I'm probably wrong so a link to explain or just tell me to search more, I'll understand. Thanx

I thought I read an article or post by Derek (Beast) about his experience with mega-dosing BCAA's. You could search for it....
IMO it would be beneficial but only if you can afford it.

I have a question. Would mega dosing bcaas on a regular basis create a dependancy withing the body i.e. the body will require in the future the supplementation of bcass in order to stay in homeostasis?
Thanks

No, your body will not grow dependent on them.

I think the effect of BCAA supplementation will definitely be more pronounced or more "noticeable" during the first couple weeks. After a week or two your recovery is increased and soreness is down, and it may not seem like the BCAA are doing anything, but they are. If you were to stop BCAA supplement for a couple of weeks I guarentee you would notice a decrease in recovery and probably an increase in soreness.
The thing to remember is BCAA oxidation is increased during every workout. So supplying exogenous BCAA takes care of this oxidation no matter how long you've been using it. From a few studies that I have recently read, I think adding Glutamine to BCAA is very important as it may decrease BCAA, specifically leucine, oxidation which would aid in increasing protein synthesis.

Ive had people PM me and email me telling me when they stopped supplementing with xtend their recovery dropped and soreness was increased.

i understand where you're coming from... but i wouldn't cycle bcaa's. if your logic held up... then why not supplement protein? OBVIOUSLY nobody would ever do that (unless its someone reading the teen section) id cycle creatine, but it wouldnt make sense to cycle things such as protein, bcaa's, multi, fish oil, etc. IMO
BTW... i just started using bcaa's about a week ago. i bought some glutamine and bcaa's separate and mix them because it was cheaper to buy in bulk. and i've been at a plateau in my weight for months and ive finally been able to break that without changing any other variables. Definitely worth trying

Post Workout: 10 grams
Bedtime: 10 grams
Total: 50 grams/day
If one wanted to incorporate citrulline malate and creatine along with BCAA, I would suggest the following (I am using Scivation's Xtend in my example because it already contains 1 gram of citrulline malate per serving and tastes very good):
Breakfast: 1 serving Xtend
Pre-Workout: 1 serving Xtend & 3-5 grams Creatine
During Workout: 2 serving Xtend
Post Workout: 1 serving Xtend & 3-5 grams Creatine
Bedtime: 1 serving Xtend
Total: 50 grams BCAA
- 1 serving = 2 scoops = 10 g BCAAs, right?
- If I am currently in the 188-192lbs/14-15% BF range, looking to drop some fat and get to ~200lbs /12% or lower BF, would this be the optimal Xtend dosing schedule for me?
- Do I understand that I would want to lower my remaining protein intake to 150-175g target (instead of 200-225g target) range?
- I typically lift at night. I try to get at least an hour after I finish up/take my PWO Xtend before I take my evening protein and hit the sack. When I start this megadosing, should I drop the evening protein? (Usually 1 scoop Probolic-SR or Muscle Milk + 2 scoops (~20g protein) whey protein (Met-Rx Ultramyosyn or ON Whey) -- and I am open to suggestions on another kick-ass vanilla or other whey as I am running low and will be placing an order soon)
Thanks for the help with these questions. If I missed anything, please add it in...

Personally what I recommend you do is take 1 scoop for every 20 lbs of bodyweight and sip pre/during/post workout. I personally dont cound xtend towards total protein or cal intake because according to the FDA they dont have cals. I think you should do it this way personally, as for a vanilla way I HIGHLY recommend substance WPI.

Very cool, thanks. Substance looks great and has great reviews here. I will pick some up soon. Priced well, and aspartame free!
Thanks for the advice on the Xtend as well.

I've been getting in ~6 scoops per day, mostly around the workout.
So far, so good. I will work on this a little more and, with more time, will be able to comment better.
I watch my Xtend disappear and wish I could afford an endless supply. But, alas, I will fall into a penny-pinching mode soon.
Does Scivation offer an EAA tablet or BCAA tablets/caps that I could take mid-morning or mid-afternoon just to get the extra BCAAs in? These wouldn't need to be liquid form/as available as the Xtend pre/during/post workout, and tabs or caps would work better to carry to work or on the road.
Let me know what you've seen work out best... I know you get asked the same questions over and over again, and I appreciate your time with my questions.

Yes you could do that, it would take like weeks to degrade the protein.

Das Wissen verpflichtet!
Was there ever a person that didn't see a positive difference when supplementing BCAA's ? In reasnoble doses i mean.
I think that it's a great supplement, like it's users have noticed, once you try it you want bucket loads of it.
Pain is my game! (I now recall this statement, as I'm fed up with pain)

just so everyone knows, i tried capping some BCAA powder today, and its not worth it. the **** is too light and fluffy. after packing it down several times, each pill still only held .5-.6 grams, so one would need to consume roughly 20 pills to get 10 grams BCAA's. the pills i used were size "00" plus its just real messy. hope this was helpful and could save someone else the time

Where can I expect to purchase xtend? I tried GNC (don't laugh) and they did not carry it. Of course they tried to push their brand the whole time I was there.
