Simply Simpy
I'm back from an extended vacation from this site. And since, I don't exactly feel like the same person that posted here a few months ago, I decided to change my sign-in name and get a whole new thread.
A few months ago I competed in my third figure competition, and for the first time in a long time, I was really pleased with my progress. Since then, however, my eating and workout habits have gone to hell in a handbasket (to use a rather archaic expression). I just don't seem to have any motivation right now. I'm ashamed to say that I have let the rest of my life interfere with my bb lifestyle. Usually eating right and exercising are what keep me sane. I've veered off the path and have ended up being chubbier than I can ever remember being (other than those few months after having my son), and I've *gasp* lost some of my precious, hard-earned muscle.
So, I am the new recipient of a bodybuilding diet from Beverly Nutrition. And, since I'm looking forward to a nice, long break from work, I plan on being in the gym every day. As a matter of fact, I'm even more excited, because I'm taking some classes on campus this summer. My university just got a new fitness facility, and I plan on using that a few time a week. It will be a nice little break from my routine.
I'll post measurements soon. Probably tomorrow. (I just can't bring myself to measure my waist at the end of the day ) My goals are, as usual, to build my ever-resistant deltoids as well as my lats. I'm also looking forward to learning how to bust out some quality lat pull ups. And, of course, to drop some unwanted fat.
Thanks to everyone who reads this. And welcome to old friends. You may not know who I am, but I've certainly been watching your journals and progress and will be posting there soon.

Hi there and welcome back to the boards!!
That's great you did a figure competition! I think I may like to do one of those eventually as well.
It's easy to let "real life" get in the way of the bb-ing lifestyle... I'm sure everyone struggles with that... I know I do--often! I'm sure you will get back into things just fine... these boards are SO motivating!!
Good luck!!

Thursday, I started a new program that my husband devised for me. He told me it would feel like I was doing nothing, but that my body should start to show major improvements in size and strength soon. He's been doing this workout for about 3 weeks now, and he's growing like a mad-man, and his strength is really getting a lot better.
So, here's what the program consists of.
Day 1: Back, chest, tris, and calves. Four sets of each exercise, heavy as I can go for 6-10 reps.
Day 2: Shoulders, Bis, Legs, and Abs. Same as above.
I am supposed to do each workout at least twice a week, alternating the workouts, and giving myself a rest day in between. I started with workout 2 since I had just worked my chest and back the day before. I've lost some strenght, but things are okay.
DB Shoulder Press: 2 x 35 x 8 , 40 x 7, 45 x 6 (with assistance on last 2)
Biceps curl - EZ curl bar: 50 x 10, 60 x 8, 70 x 7, 70 x 6 (w/a)
BB Squats - 90 x 10, 2 x 145 x 6, 145 x 5 (Bad form on this set. Felt it the next day )
Abs (Weighted cable pull-ins) 4 x 30 x 10
This was my first time with the weighted cable pull-ins. They were pretty tough, especially once I figured out the optimal distance to lie from the cable and that to really kill myself, I needed to add a crunch in the end. The only problem was that I felt a little lopsided, like I had worked my left side harder than my right. I may try one leg at a time on the next go-round.
I don't have time to workout today. The daycare center has already closed and I don't have a sitter for the bambino. I'll probably take Jack to the park and perhaps run around the trail with him in the stroller. So it looks like just cardio today.
Oh, and thanks everyone for stopping in to say "Hi."

Venting . . .
Got up this morning with an itch to go for a jog. Wouldn't you know that by the time the hubby came home from work and I was able to head out the door, a rip-roaring thunderstorm set it! I'll run in rain, but forget the lightening. Crap. Really had the urge to go out today.

Welcome back and looking forward to joining your journey! I actually used the Bev Plan before. The staff there is great (who is your "counselor"?). Good luck with the plan. How exciting for you to start a new path

MuscleMom, Mark is my couselor for the bulking diet. I've used the Bev diet for my cutting before, but not the bulk. In all honesty, they're pretty much the same stinking thing, except I now get whipping cream in my protein shakes. I usually allow myself a few more calories than they recommend, even when I'm cutting. It's worked so far. We'll see how the bulk goes.
Today's diet - so far:
8:00 - Omlette (1 egg, 3 ew, 2 tbsp 2% shredded cheddar cheese), 1/2 cup oatmeal
10:00 - 2 scoops protein w/ 5 frozen strawberries
12:00 - Grilled chicken on lettuce w/lf vinaigrette
3:00 -1/2 protein bar
4:30 - 1 cup watermelon
I have class tonight so I don't get out until 9 pm. I'm contemplating finishing my protein bar during class and foregoing another meal. I hate to eat that late. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I'll be up past midnight, so I think that I may be able to handle one more small meal.
Today's workout
DB Chest Press: 35 x 10, 40 x 10, 45 x 8, 45 x 5
Assisted chin ups: +40 x 4, 2 x +50 x 8, +40 x 5 (Very dissapointed in these)
DB Overhead triceps press 35 x 10, 40 x 8, 45 x 7, 45 x 6
Seated calf press: 4 x 50 x 20
My calves are a little big in comparison to my upper leg. I absolutely do not want them to grow. On the other hand, they definitely need definition. I've been working on lighter weights and strict form. I hold for a count of 2 at the top and stretch all the way at the bottom on these. Hopefully, my results will really show the next time I diet down.
I said a few days ago that I was planning on taking my measurements. I haven't forgotten, it's just that my son seems to have misplaced my tape measurer. He has a tendency to take things he likes (and for some reason he loves the measuring tape) and hide them. There are several things missing lately. My husband had to buy a new belt for work because we cannot find his old one. It's somewhere in the house, but wherever it is, it is well hidden.
Gotta' go. Class is starting in 15 minutes which gives me just enough time to run across campus.
Have a great day!

Hi Simpy!!
LOL, thats funny your son stole and stashed your measuring tape!! LOL... good thing you can get them at Walmart for a buck fifty... or else I never would have bought one in the first place (I was in college at the time).
That omlette sounds just delicious!! I think one would actually hit the spot for me right now!!! YUM!!!
Wow! You use #45 DBs on your chest presses... that's great!! I can only do 25 pounds.... Im working my way up though, I started at 15's.
Have fun at class!! ....if that's possible class is never all that fun.

KBQ, actually class was kind of fun. I'm starting a new Master's program (I already have a different one + additional hours) in counseling. Tonight we analyzed a case study from three different perspectives. It was kind of funny because it was all about this 17 y.o. female. And one guy was having trouble with a concept, so the professor broke out into a fake counseling session with the guy acting as the teenage female. It was so funny to me because the guy didn't even stop to check himself. He dove right in to playing the young girl's part. Then, I got to thinking about how cool it is that he did that, when (sad to say) so many young males in today's society aren't willing to even play the role. I'm rambling. But, suffice it to say, I had a nice night.
Buffy, yeah, it is fun to journey along with others. I enjoy your journal a lot. You always seems to even in your approach. I admire that. The dedication of people like you, Mommy2*3, emma leigh, etc is so motivating.
As for the Beverly stuff, I couldn't afford it if I bought it from them. I have to go to other sites. I do like their products a lot, though. I really can tell a difference in them and some of the others that I've taken. The only thing I have to say is that the protein shakes aren't that yummy. They're great to cook with, but if I'm going to have an actual shake I prefer Optimum. I think that I'm going to buy some soon. That way I'll have Beverly for cooking and Optimum for drinking.

I have heard good things about Mark. I have used Rachel b4 and she has been great. I had a lot of success with the diet. And, yeah, I go thru other sources as well...BI sells them for too much. What are your fav. products? (ones you feel you have gotten the best results from?)
Congrats on the additional masters program! (my BA is in Social Work some day I hope to get that MSW)

Okay, I tried to post three times on Tuesday, and none of them went through. Then, I found I couldn't do anything on 'rethis site. If I went to any other site on the web all was well and good. Don't know what was going on that day, but I ended up just getting frustrated and shutting down the computer. Hopefully *crossing fingers* this post will actually go though.
Musclemom: I love the Beverly stuff, but have to get it through d-p-s-nutrtion. Otherwise it's just toooooo expensive. Ridiculously so. As far as the stuff that I like the most, I would have to say the Ultra 40 liver tablets. They're fantastic and I can really tell a difference when I'm using them with my hardness and muscle retention. We'll see if it helps with muscle gain as well.
Tuesday I hit the gym for my shoulders, bis, legs and abs workout. Let's see if I can remember it all without having to get my journal. . .
DB Shoulder presses: 30 x 10, 35 x 8, x7, x7
Ez Curls: 50x10, 60 x 8, 2 x 65 x7
Low cable ab pull ins: 30 x 12, 3 x 45 x 10
BB Squats: 95 x 12, 115 x 10, 2 x 145 x 7
I was pretty sore from Monday's workout so I had to stretch like all get out and warm up well. I wasn't sure how my shoulders would go since they were fairly sore from the chest work on Monday. My strength was impacted too much, though.
Tuesday: HIIT Training (first cardio session since my show in March )
2 1/2 minutes warm-up
10 minutes (20/10 second intervals) on spin
3 minutes Cool-down
DYING!!!!!
Yesterday was just cardio. 20 minutes on ellip and 20 on spin. Not a bad day, all in all.

Hi Simpy. That is whereI get my Bev Stuff from too. I can't wait until we get back to the mainland so I don't have to pay crazy shipping rates. You got my wheels turning and after we move and get settled, I am thinking of going back to Bev for the bulk part of the diet.
Back to HIIT...ugh, I dread it
Just bulking or do you have a plan to do another show?

Currently I'm just bulking. If things go well this summer I may do the Muscle Mash in October and the Kentucky in November. I really like the dieting process, so I'm kind of itching for an excuse to do it again. On the other hand, I want to give my body the time it needs to add some muscle and look better for a show. I don't want to compete again unless I know I can be really competitive.

Oh wow - a comp in October! That is soon! Do you feel as though you will be ready for that (I really don't doubt you in the slightest.. from what I have read, you are very determined!)
Wait... same question as the above, have you competed before (and have I just missed it?)
Hope you are having a great day!

Buffy, I'm in Central Ky.
Megs, yeah, I've competed before and I have all that information on a different journal (under a different name).
SNSTerp79 - I'll try to attach a pic or two from my last show. I didn't place well, but I was pleased with my conditioning. My biggest downfall is that my shoulders and back aren't big enough. I'm trying to work on that now.
On to some good news. . . I've had four different people comment on the fact that I'm getting bigger. Yay!!!! My husband said he already can tell a difference in my arms and shoulders. That seems almost impossible to me, since I've only been working for two weeks, but I guess after a lengthy vacation from the gym, you'll see changes quickly at first.
I wish I had measurements from when I started, but I already told about have Cadillac Jack hid my tape. I've yet to buy another one. Just can't seem to remember when I'm at the store. I've got to get on that and some starting point pictures.

Here are some old pics. I'm nowhere near as lean now. I know that you can't keep it up forever, but I've really just let loose and gained way too much fat. I'll get those pictures soon.

Today's workout was shoulder, abs, and bis. I was supposed to add legs in there, but I didn't. No excuses, I just didn't. My strength and attitude were a little down today. I've been working out with my hubby, and that's been helping me a ton in the motivation department. He hasn't been around this week, however, due to work stuff. I think I miss him at the gym. Oh, yeah, I miss him at home, too.
DB shoulder press: 30x10, 3x35x8
EZ curl: 50x10, 2x60x8, 70x7 (cheated on last two)
Low cable ab pulls: 40x12, 3x50x12
Hanging leg raises: 2x15
Treadmill - 3 minutes wu. 17 minute run
Ellip - 5 minute cool down.
Cardio . . . . .SUCKS!!!!! I can't believe how hard it is to start back. I decided to do the treadmill today since I'm black and blue down yonder from the spin bikes earlier in the week. Seriously, I think I may have done some damage
Diet so far is not fantastic, but okay
9 am -3 ew +1 egg omlette w/ff cheese and salsa
11:30 - post workout shake at gym
12:30 - veggie beef soup (made w/super lean beef and too many starchy carbs)
I'm heading to a friend's baby shower today. I have already made myself promise that I will not under any circumstance eat cake. I did a whole day of bad stuff yesterday at the zoo. Oh, but Cadillac had a fantastic time, at least when he and his "best buddy" weren't running as fast as they could away from me.

Too sore to even move off of the couch. My run was short and sweet yesterday and, honestly, I could have run for another 3 or 4 miles. But, man, did it make me sore! My back is miserable and my adductors are hurting. Not to mention that my abs are sore from the work I did with them yesterday, too.
Now. . . on to my attitude. It's the pits. I don't know why I'm feeling so down lately. I'm never like this. I swear, I'm usually all bubbles and optimism. But, gah, I have absolutely no motivation right now. And, I'm frustrated with my body, yet I do pretty much nothing to change it. I haven't even meditated for about three weeks. That's probably why I'm so crabby.
Okay, so that's enough of that. I'll be back on when I'm in a better state of mind.
