    Better for a football player?

Hey guys, I just got off Bill Starr's 5x5 program and just started a modified Westside program. I'll be going back to the 5x5 in the summer. When I did the 5x5 the first time, I used bent over rows instead of powercleans, deads instead of high pulls, and military press instead of incline press. When I start it again, I'm gonna replace bent over rows with powercleans this time and I'm gonna keep military press instead of incline press. My question is which would be better for a football player, deadlifts or high pulls? Arent powercleans and high pulls really similar? The only difference is that with powercleans you catch the bar on your shoulders rather than just pull it up. I want to develop explosive power, but if I'm going to be doing powercleans maybe I can leave out high pulls and just stick with deads. What do you guys think?

    I'd stick with deads personally.

I've never understood the point of high pulls.
