people ask me how to train, and i answer "i look at what you do and then i do the exact oposite"
if your family was captured and you were told you needed to put 100 pounds onto your max squat within two months or your family would be executed, would you squat once per week? Something tells me that you'd start squatting every day

Avoid the S word: salmonella. Fresh eggs may contain the bacteria Salmonella enteritidis. Although S. enteritidis affects a very small number of eggs, it's still wise to refrain from eating raw or undercooked eggs. The salmonella tends to be found in the yolk of the egg, according to researchers. But it's possible for it to be in raw egg whites, so it's best to avoid both.
Pick pasteurized. If you want to make a recipe that calls for raw beaten eggs or egg whites, fear not! You have a few options here. Egg substitutes are pasteurized, which means they're rapidly heated at a certain temperature for a certain amount of time to destroy any salmonella. Dried egg whites are pasteurized by being heat-treated in their dried form. Pasteurized whole eggs are also available at some supermarkets.

I have been thinking about it but i think i will give the front row ago this year. I have got a couple of points to prove this year with the new coach. Also the flankers we have got are pretty **** hot. Not that im giving up trying but i want to prove the coach wrong in the loose head position and then ill think about moving. Plus im hoping to be up to 98kg in 3/4 weeks so will be getting back to the weight for a prop.
Total rest day today but i have felt worse than training days. No energy or anything!! Oh well upper at 0630 tomorrow.Last edited by Will87; 08-19-2009 at 10:42 AM.

hey guys. my seasons just finished, so after my short rest, OFF SEASON!! mm, the best training.
i really want to get fit for next season, and im going on a tour with a side at the very beginning of the season, but well be training for it almost all off season.
which is kind of leading to my question. if im going on tour in april next year, should i work on cardio and/or anaerobic fitness now or leave it for later.
im my mind, im thinking if i start asap with fitness i can be a freak around the field with a super high work rate, or, leave it till later and do lots of hiitp in the 10-15 period prior to tour.
im leaning more towards the fitness now, so then i know i can sprint as much as possible around the park.Aims for '09 Current
Max in Kg
Bench 165 110
Squat 220 160
Deadlift 170 120
100m 13 Sec 15

You have from now till April off??? Personally i would probably have a month or so off. Give your body a rest play a little touch or what ever you fancy.
Weights wise.... i would probably start on a high intensity training for 2 phase (1 month = 1 phase). Then i would start to look at a volume training for a few months and then on to a power phase for 2 months jsut before the season starts.
Running wise. First couple of months i would just stick to a little light running, nothing major. Nov/Dec start looking at some F/Lek training and then about 2 months before the season starts i would look at high amount of sprint work and polys.
Just a personal view i would mix it up depending on how your training is going etc. It changes from person to person though!!OFFICIAL RUGBY THREAD http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=107034291

i guess i'll make my first post in this thread..
I just learned to play Rugby about a month ago, and I already love it. I'm pretty sure it's my new favorite game to play. I'm primarily a powerlifter, and I needed something to motivate me to actually get out and do my conditioning/gpp. Well, I saw a flyer that someone had put up about starting a rugby league, and they were inviting all skill levels. I thought "why not" and shot the guy an email to let him know I was interested.
Up to this point, we've just been running passing drills and a few tackling drills, while teaching all of us newbs about the game. Tonight will be our first night of full contact, and I'm pumped for it. I suppose we'll see how many of us are really cut out for the game, lol..
Our hopes with the club around here is to garner enough support and people to have a solid team. I'm hoping my strengths will help me excel in the game. Any pointers/tips would be helpful, since i'm a very raw rookie. What type of role would someone with my size/strength be expected to fill? I'm not the fastest, but I do lay down sub 5 second 40s pretty consistantly on grass

man i hate clueless gym noobs arg. there was a group of 4guys and 1 girl in the gym 2nte musta been around 17ish, and they where doing my head in even as i was trying to ignore them but it was kinda hard when i was deadlifting and they where standing behind me asking each other what i was doing. and from what i could see they had a typical noob sesh, they came in all of them went straight to the preacher curl machine did a couple reps, then it was db curls and ez bar curls followed buy some bench and then russian twists. and throughout it all, all the girl would ever do was moan about when they guys where gona finish. i never expected those kinda people in a rugby club gym.
although atleast i nearly spwed 2nte cos i was working that hard did will's 6/12/25 leg thing total killer think i'm almost ready for the 2nd part of the workout.
at a glance id say front row, manily down to your strength and size, but depending on your fitness and if your not carrying to much flab id also look at backrow.people ask me how to train, and i answer "i look at what you do and then i do the exact oposite"

bout 1 in every 30,000 eggs MIGHT contain salonella poisoning and the risk in healthy adults is pretty low even after consumption. so no eating raw eggs isnt NEARLY as bad as it sounds. plus nik is right for once that a lot of the eggs nutritional value is in the yolk and believe it or not your body needs HDH which the yolk mostly consists of.
tl:dr
yolk is good for u
raw eggs aint bad either
so yes i crack raw eggs in my shake. been doing it for bout a decade and last i checked im pretty good on the salmonella. although ill let ya know if i start shotgun pooping everywhere. and my cholesterol is well under low lvls and thats coming from a family with heart problems and high cholesterol.

Hopefully enough people realise its crap and don't buy into it. Sadly, I doubt it. I'Bodybuilder= lift heavy, take 50 bucks worth of supps every workout, get huge.
Thib used to be a good writer when he covered power stuff and athletic training, but bbing stuff is just dribble to sell supps.
I love that Alpha-GPC is stuff Poliquin was speaking about a decade ago and they are planning on a creatine pyruvate supplement. Tim Patterson Pm'd me as I said it was old and nothing new, he was all this is never before seen stuff etc. A simple search shows hundreds of products usinf it, exactly as he described. As does my old M&F mags from 1999. Cutting edge stuff.

Hey guys quick question, anything in Union rules against stripping the ball from an opponent in a standing position or mauling position. Just curious because I have never seen it happen in either high school or college rugby, but I was playing contested 7's with some buddies the other day and I had a few successful strips...usually the player had the ball in front of his body looking for support or to dump the ball off and I just picked it out of his hands on the run.

I've seen it happen plenty of times after the tackle, before the ruck forms, the tackler usually goes to do a quick pick and achieve attacking position. But in my 5 years of playing the game I've never seen anyone strip the ball or even attempt to one on one in the open field. I think it's illegal to do so in League so I was wondering if this applies to Union as well?

Thing is they have 85%+ of the T-Nation forum goers eating out the palm of their hands. Their product marketing techniques aren't far off the Cell Tech/Muscle Tech stuff now.
Still, a bunch of the old articles are really good. I went through them all a while ago, took hours but I got some good (free) info.Official Rugby training thread: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=107034291

Thats what i thought.... doubt it will happen but a few kilos would be good. Cant compalin at the drop so far.
Oh yes they are magic calipers ineeded.......... give you the results you want. he is a good mate of mine so hoping he is not taking the piss really. Only charges me for the Personal Training that i do with im the biosig has been free. He is trying to base his gym on Defranscos gym.......
Yea some of the stuff i have read is a stupid amount of fish oils..... Currently all i take is (a day) -
Betaine HCL
15g of Fish Oils
3 x Multivit
2 x Vit B
After training i take a protein shake...
I started using some of the Poliquin supplements and even with MAJOR discount they costed quite a bit. Fish oils ?36 for 20days supply.... MP ?8 for 35 days..... Vit B complex is cheaper else where....
As you can see it is not a great amount of supplements at all. Well personally thats what i think. What does everyone else think?
Im assuming you are not a fan of Poliquin then? Tbh i dint have a clue about training or eating and supps and felt like i used to be wasting my time. So went to see my mate just to get a basic understanding. You think he has taken the piss.....OFFICIAL RUGBY THREAD http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=107034291

Ha standard chav and noob work out then!! I stupidly decided to go to the gym at 8pm thinking that it would be empty. Very very silly mistake. It was full of group of 4 or 5 people. hard the roid hitting freaks over in one corner, little chavs pissing around doing bull ups and then bi curls and then some poeple that dint have a clue what they were doing and looked generally scared to be there. Got half way through my work out and had enoughH. People were dicking around, couldnt get on machines or just leaving weights all over the place.
I think i will stick to my 6/630am training, nice and quite few serious trainers in there doing the right stuff!!
You are more than welcome to have the second part. how long did the first part take you!? I hate to think how much pain you were in..... i have tried to block the images of me lying on the floor being sick out of my mind!! That 6 weeks was a killer.... 2 legs a week and 2 upper!!OFFICIAL RUGBY THREAD http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=107034291

I'm not against anyone really, just Poliquin gets 'out there' a bit.
Like some on BR.com suggest, maybe he pushes the envelope to see just what he can get away with. Some of his claims are rubbish.
Both Cosgrove and Defranco for example are Poliquin certified. But try and find them saying so.
If it's working though more power to you. Nothing to say his stuff wouldn't work, but its the magnitude of his claims etc.
Nothing intended against you or ur trainer btw

Haha I was reading through the Velocity Diet section there, and someone asked if other supps but Biotest's would work. The answer Shugs gave was a simple, unexplained, no. And everyone ate it up. 5 or so guys came in with amazing results using cheaper whey.
The worst is how defensive everyone gets when you question some of the ****. Good thing I Bodybuilder got bad reactions.
TBH, I think Poliquin has many great ideas. I think some of the stuff he says is out there, but I think he's just one of those people that talks and uses big hyperbole. All in all, if you look at everything he says without taking it totally literally, the advice he gives is amazing. I don't believe in 40g of fish oil a day, but his dietary advice saw me drop the fat and put on muscle like nothing else. Plus I feel amazing eating loads of veggies, meat and nuts as most of my diet.Friendship b/w women:

No offence taken. I have read some of the articles on his site and others and thought what a load of rubbish. Some of the stuff he claims is very very far fetch.....
this is taken from his testo booster the legal way:
"If low testosterone affects cognitive ability, take Fast Brain 2.0, two caps at breakfast and lunch, to maximize the results.
When someone presents low testosterone levels according to Biosignature protocols, I would typically prescribe the preceding cycle. I have seen the hormone levels of male athletes increase from 110 of total testosterone to 1,400 by completion of the cycle. In Biosignature testing, that athlete's results would be represented by a decrease in the skin-fold measurement of 17.6mm on the triceps to 3.8mm. Those are impressive results, and of course individual results will vary; but if your testosterone levels are below what they should be, then you need to seriously consider using these natural, testosterone-elevating protocols"
source http://www.charlespoliquin.com/Suppl...stosterone.php
I know poeple who have done this but that is a huge amount of fat/skin fold too loose.. I mean mine have gone from 16mm to 5mm jsut from cleaning up my diet and drinking filtered water. I think things like this are a little out there.
The personal training i do is based on Defranco training. Same type of lifts and super setting. Cant say i know where Terry gets his work outs from though......... maybe poliquin or maybe not.OFFICIAL RUGBY THREAD http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=107034291

i saw a standing strip happen in a rugby league game for the first time the other day i think it was the bradford huddersfield game.
thats what was more annoying about it they weren't chav's they where very poorly gym educated rugby players well 2 of them where atleast, rugby players in gyms are easliy identifiable.
i duno i never timed myself tbh just made sure i completed it, maybe i'm not doing it right as my legs don't get that sore more just my body being drained into an inch of its life and there is noway i just take 180secs rest and the 25 db squats was more like 5x5 manily due to the fact i was strugling to count to 6. ill be trying the 2nd part next wed once i find a replacement for the cable squat things and i'm gona stick to the rest and tempo for both. all i know is ive done it for two weeks and my legs feel bigger than they ever have so i'm gona keep at it.
looks like ive got a fair bit of googling to do i was pretty clueless for alot of those previos posts.people ask me how to train, and i answer "i look at what you do and then i do the exact oposite"
