I'm a 26year old second rower and loose forward. As an American I have less chances of going anywhere with Rugby than you guys. My best hope would usually be to play for Super League team and hopefully make the 1st squad. However I lucked out in that I'm eligible to play for the Philippine National Squad. So I've been attending trials for them.

Yeah, we've got a former national team (U-19's) coach on our staff and he said he'd help the ones who he thought could hang at the national level. So far he hasn't done anything for the people he said he'd help, so one of our guys trained up a bit and called the national team coach himself (on the national 7's team tryout list, Poynter). Probably what I'm gonna be doing next year if this season goes well.

Yeah they only way I found out about the trials was to read the emails sent out by our player union. If i hadn't read that email I would have never learned about the team. Let us know how it goes. I'd definitely be interested to see how the 7's tryouts go. Especially considering 7's will be an Olympic sport soon.
Yeah the A-side probably plays D2 and B-Side plays D3. Do you know how many guys are in your squad? It's possible your team has multiple sides in each division.MISC STRENGTH CREW

So i seen this guy standing in the hall with his rugby shirt on and I started talking to him. He's a senior and is on the d2 team. He said that they actually have 3 teams the d2, d3, and then a team which just plays pick up games which are for the players who aren't actually ready or want to play and is more a devleopmental and skills team. He said the reason why the coach and pres haven't got back to me was because they are really busy right now and have had a lot of new players come out. He said that I should just come out to practice and he'll introduce me to the coaches and stuff. He said practice is m/w 4-6 and conditioning is tu/th 4-5ish.

Haha yeah. He plays forward in 15's, and actually did fairly well out there. The first thing that hurt him was all the overseas players that prop in 7's (including Clever) came to the camp. He's got loads of talent but didn't have the resume to compete with those guys.
He also said that half the people at the camp were foreign.

You're rugby "resume" doesn't mean ****. Thats just an excuse, everybody started somewhere.
Your resume only starts to build once you've gotten your big break into super league or rep team or whatever it is.
If I let "foreigners" get in my way I would never have gone anywhere.. Just slap those damn funny-talkers out of the way. If there not good enough to represent whatever country they came from chances are they're not that good.Last edited by Snowman723; 09-30-2010 at 10:33 PM.

I don't know the standard of your school but I would assume they would deal with the highschool/club team easily depending on the the school there are 1-2 in Toronto that used to be quite good ( I have Been out of the highscool game for sometime now lol).
What rep team is it? If they are playing an Ontario age grade team that squad contains the best age grade players in North America at the moment. Including Taylor Paris(17) who has represented Canada in the 7's series and scored on his first touch against Fiji outpacing one of the fastest guys on the circut in the process. So expect a challenge.
PM me the trip itinerary and I can give you a better idea of what to expect

Hey TwiceTheSpeed, great thread.
I'm looking to increase my sprint speed, I am currently doing Rippetoes Mon, Wed, Fri (I'm probably going to switch it up soon). I'm looking to add in something to train my sprint on my off days, could you give me a 2 day a week program to do that? I'm training for rugby if that's relevant.
My main goal is to still add mass. I'm 5'10 and 175 lbs. I wanted to increase my sprint speed and flexibility as much as I can while not sacrificing too much in the way of strength and mass gains.
