craving something sweet

just wondering what you do when craving something sweet. I don't eat junk, but sometimes need something with quick sugar to give me a boost and also provide me with a nice sweet taste. I understand that fruit is fine, however sometimes i know i eat too much of it - which i find causes bloating and also does not keep me satified for very long. Just wondering if any of you have some tips that you use when your body craves a quick sugar fix?

When I want something sweet, I grab a Cliff Z Bar "for kids". They are organic and fairly healthy and the brownie one is great! Chewy and has a dark chocolate flavor. 120 calories, so not too bad for a sweet treat. I like Luna bars too. That way they are portion controlled too and I don't go crazy!! I get them at Trader Joes or Whole Foods.

I also have an apple every day and that seems to keep the sweet tooth at bay. Love them with a tablespoon of PB.

I like fat free pudding cups. Only a 100 calories and they give me a chocolate fix.

Also like popsicles a lot. I get the no sugar added ones, they come in a ton of flavors, are still super sweet and only like 45-60 calories.

a couple of sweet treats that i deem 'healthy' or 'healthyish':

protein powder pancakes/cupcakes/muffins (google for recipe)

zone bars. all of them have a 40% carb/30/30 ratio, some omega 3s, and theyre all REALLY good tasting and cruncy. chocolate mint is my favourite

detour bars taste like cheating

peanut butter and fibre 1 cereal or kashi golean crunch. sometimes i'm weird and shape them into cookies and freeze them heh

spice up your protein shake.. on chocolate mint whey + skim milk + 2 ice cubes + peppermint patties. not much more fat and sugar but it makes it even more delicious

adding peanut butter to sliced fruit is good too

this is my choice often, too.

just to note: when sugar cravings strike... if you compliment that with something salty, (say a pickle), normally it will subside.

if not, sf jello, big protein smoothie w. berries. a warm bowl of oatmeal (w. splenda and vanill), then swirl in natural peanut butter. this really beats any sugar cravings. the fats really help nutralize it for me.

L-Glutimine

L-Glutimine Kills sugar cravings! It also helps with muscle recovery, alcohol cravings, focus, ect ect. I HIGHLY suggest it. Take it a little before you know you have your cravings and it will help with your cravings

I make protein pudding when I need a sweet fix. It's a bit more nutritional than purchasing sugar-free, fat-free pudding pre-made, IMO.

I buy Sugar-Free, Fat-Free Chocolate pudding mix... I use Jell-O brand... and I make according to package directions but add one or two scoops of chocolate whey protein powder (This also works great with vanilla or banana or strawberry flavors). The small box makes 4 servings, so that's 4 sweet cravings taken care of! So I get my Chocolate fix (or other sweet fix) with some added protein!

Hope that helps!
