    Farmers walks without walking?

Is it really important to 'walk' during this exercise? My gym is crowded and I'll look like a clown walking around with dumbbells. Can I just stand and hold them for as long as I can?

    yup - it's called a static hold.

but keep in mind you're likely to gain more functional strength from farmers walks.

I thought you were gonna say "what about walking in place?"

Screw'em. Walk around with some big weight. Strut around with big weight. Strut around with big weight and talk to chicks. Get a phone number before you let go of the dumbbells. Thats good training!

farmer's walks are walking; static holds are just standing and holding the dbs. both work well for traps/grip...farmers walks are done usually to prepare for stronman events.
