I stay away from dairy also, but I do use whey protein, as I believe it is better than soy or rice protein. Whey isolate is so far removed from milk/dairy that it doesn't seem to have the same effect. That is just from my own experience. I think you would be ok to use whey protein and drop all other dairy products from your diet.
Good luck,
Judy

BIG bump to this. I have exactly the same issues with soy and dairy. Many people do without even realising it.

You're welcome.
I am staying away from dairy products, but I usually have one or two whey protein drinks a day. I use Optimum 100% whey and water.
Soy products definitely give me digestive problems (gas). Rice protein doesn't cause any problems, but it is not as good a protein source as Whey.
I also avoid wheat and gluten products as I have celiac (gluten intolerance).

Hi,
Rice has a low allergy potential (considered hypoallergenic), where soy is a common allergen, so switching from soy based foods to rice based foods is likely an improvement. If you are looking for a substitute for milk, I have seen substitutes made from Rice, Almonds, and even Oats. I don't know if you can find them where you live, but they are in the health food section of the local supermarkets here. Just watch the other ingredients in them, some have a lot of sugar added.
I found that eliminating dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese, etc) helped me reduce bloating and water retention. If you watch your sodium intake and drink alot of water that will help too. The less processed food you eat, the better. Also eating several small meals a day, and decreasing carbs later in the day helps.
Hope this helps,
Judy

yes we have health sections too and i have seen oat milk, but i also try to cut out all wheat and gluten so have to make sure it dosnt contain gluten. i too suffer from water retention and maybe from what you have said , i may to be holding water from using dairy, so fingers crossed that now cutting it out it will go . i do eat clean no prossed foods eccept the odd bar of choc, and a bowl of rice puffs, naughty i know but i never have prossed foods so i figure i should be aloud the odd treat right ??????????

People who are gluten intolerant often have other food sensitivities. Dairy's a prime offender, but soy can be, too. Jay Robb has an egg white protein you may want to try, if you know that eggs don't bother you.

Thanks,
It's hard to find gluten free foods and supplements at times. I would like to use Optimum ProComplex but it has Glutamine Peptides, which are derived from wheat gluten. I have to make sure that any Glutamine containing supplements that I use have free form Glutamine and not Glutamine Peptides.
