Best Shoes for Cardio OR Strength Training
I'm curious as to know which shoes you guys are training with.
For running, Asics have been decent. "Decent". I'm CONSIDERING Nike Shox. Any thoughts as to your favourite shoes for doing cardio OR strength training??

it depends on your feet and how you walk. shoe-wise, what fits one person well will not fit someone else.
for example, my mom swears by new balance, but if i wear them, i get ankle pain after running.
alot of shoe stores will measure your feet and look at your arches to help you select the right shoe.

Thanks for the response!!
But it is not a question referring to me and my feet, personally; just a general, what do you like, question.

I'm flat footed and over-pronate when running. I have found that Pearl Izumi makes running shoes that work great for me. I have Nike cycling shoes with clips for any kind of cycling of spinning. I wear an older pair of Mizunno shoes for training and general tennis shoe wearing.

I like my nike trainer 4.0s they strengthen your food when running and have no heel, so their perfect for training, espicially things like squats where you want your feet flat on the floor.

I like Adidas, specifically the ones that have the adiprene gel on the entire underside of the shoe. Responses is a good one.

I've bought the new Nike 360 and I think they are the best shoe out on the market right now.

i've got some exp with shoes, and for a guy i have A LOT of shoes... (currently the girl i'm seeing has put me on lock-down when it comes to buying shoes tho)
training/runnning: adidas megaride. near impossible to get as they have been discontinued to make way for the current gigaride, but if u can get a pair i recommend it. for u women, it might actually be easier to find (dunno why tho, i just seem to see more women's megarides than men's). to my knowledge finish line (online) has the largest available selection.
running: asics kayanos or top end saucony. they are about the same imo. comfy, more or less.
hoops: converse dwayne wade low. i know hoops wasn't part of the question, but i had to add it in there. it's a damn comfortable shoe.

When I competed in collegiate cross country and track we would cycle our shoes every 3 months...
ADIDAS all the way! They never failed me!
New Balance make a quality runner too!
I own two pairs of Nike Shox...look great...not the best for running...minimal support...

O/T but good advice
I sold shoes for a while and ive got a good one.
I truly recommend Brooks running shoes or Mizuno. Stay clear of Nike as they feel good for all of 5 miles then all the foam breaks down....before you know it... your knee gives out....point is you die. Anyways back on task. I personally recommend THe Aasics Gel Nimbus 7's. They just released the 8 so you should be able to find the 7's at a finish line or something for like 60 bucks.(i bought 3 pairs recently). I prefer the 7 over the 8 due to the extra cushoning on them. although the 8's look better for women. Anyways the 8's shoudl cost you around 120 and the 7's 50-60 due to the new model. Trust me same shoe. I paid 140 last july for the 7's.

I've found that only Reeboks have the support that I need for my poor, high arches.

I'm such a sucker for what the shoe looks like rather than whats good
I've been through reebok, nike, but I recently decided to buy a pair of cross trainers branded Ryka - apparently its specially made for women. Hah, they are comfy so far though!

There's a new line of shoes (in different brands) that are developed on the idea that shoes should only protect your feet from harm without stabilizing. The idea is, there are muscles in your feet designed to hold the bones together and stabilize you when you move. If you wear shoes that keep these muscles from having to work, they atrophy. Since your feet are the base of your support structure and are where you derive your power in all movements, having weak muscles impacts your performance in everything.
These shoes come from the current wave of bare-foot training, allowing athletes to strengthen their feet and thus overall performance.
Nike Free is one example. I can't think of any others off the top of my head. Something to look into.
I haven't tried these yet, but I may pick up a pair next week.

Nike Shox!
Nike Shox! When they're new they're like walking on air--they make me feel magical like my jelly shoes did when I was a little girl

To add on to the Nike Free thing. . .I heard those shoes are amazing. My friend got himself a pair awhile back; his response to them went like, " You really can feel your feet muscles working harder. I started feeling muscles burn that I didn't even know I had. Mostly i could feel it in my toes and front of my feet, as well as my calves. My calves burned more than ive ever had them when ive been running. Also noticeable i could feel muscles in my hips working more, but not as exaggerated as in my calves and feet."
I think I might just get meself a pair.

i personally like the Nike Frees for my leg days because the lack of support forces you to use little muscles around your ankles/feet that you don't notice. But then again, that same positive (lack of support) can be dangerous/a problem for some. Try different types and see what suits you best

I 2nd the rec for Asics Gel Nimbus. I have high arches and underpronate. I used to like the gel Cumulus, but the latest version is too roomy in the toe box.

I also overpronate and wear Brooks Addiction for running, though I haven't done much of that lately since I pulled my groin. I seem to have nagging tendonitis in my left calf even though I wear the Brooks, so I'm thinking of trying barefoot running on grass, or other such "shoe minimalism". For lifting I wear Brooks Adrenaline (just because they look good, don't need a particular function) unless I'm squatting/deadlifting in which case I wear a very very flat shoe I used to wear for fencing.

Im dying to try one of these types of shoes... I do most of my poer lifts barefoot anyway, but id love to be able to run in a shoe that doesnt stabilize much but provides more comfort than barefoot.
I love my Asics and New Balance... the Asics are a basic Gel running shoe, the NBs are a sprinting-based shoe...

I use Vibram Fivefingers for running, cardio and weights and love them!
Used to wear trainers which were properly fitted but always ended up with niggles here and there not something I get with the Fivefingers. As close to barefoot as you can get I think!
They take a few weeks to get used to as you use different muscles wearing these than trainers but once you do they are great!

For lifting, my favourite shoes are Chuck Taylor's, being completely flat. Cardio-wise, I generally opt for Nike.

I so need to get me a pair of Chucks for lifting! I actually use kung fu shoes for lifting as they are totally flat as well but look kind of funny (kind of like clown shoes on me at least). But they are a dream for lifting in.
For cardio i love my Asics. I tried a bunch of different styles and the Asics were the ones that fit me the best. I also have narrow feet so I have to get all my shoes in a AA width.

I have very very flat feet and i like a very flat shoe, even when running (I know I shouldn't). ....I just want to get as close to that bare foot feeling. I had some cheap ASICS knockoffs. .Statics I think they were called. Then I have some champion crosstrainers that were flat and looked like wrestling shoes. Now I have a pair of new balance on loan from my cousin because I ruined that pair of champion shoes.
I don't like all the foam in new balance unless I'm walking a lot. For running it makes my ankles hurt. And when I squat the foam interferes with my perception.

Can you find these in a sporting store like Dick's or at a shoe store in the mall?

Wide Shoes?
I know a few friends that have bunions - any suggestions on comfortable shoes supporting that issue for weight trainers?.
