Off Season Cardio for Defensive Line

I'm currently a freshman playing defensive tackle at a D-III school and I'm looking to gain 10-15 pounds before next season. Having said that, I also want that weight to be "good weight". In short, I'm really aiming to hammer down on (hopefully) cutting a bit of body fat while still increasing lean muscle mass. I've considered doing interval training workouts on my off days to better increase my cardiovascular endurance, burn some unwanted fat, and also improve my overall endurance levels. Is this something I should still look into, or are interval training workouts going to make me lose a bunch of weight? Can I still gain weight in the long run while doing cardiovascular exercises?

interval training can help you. As a football player i am a big believer in football running. 5-20 yard sprints that involve explosion and cutting. Also you must look at your goal and look at your timeframe. Generally during this time of the year i liked to gain all my weight so going into summer i can focus more on cardio and and lifting for strength than trying to gain mass. If you focus on mass now during the summer you can focus on getting leaner and doing your cardio while at least maintaining strength while loosing fat. This will help you have your best body possible going into camp, you will be in great cardiovascular shape as well as very strong.
That is what i personally did and i always dominated camp while being in better shape than everyone else. During the offseason you can run just keep in mind your schedule and your goal.
This is what worked for me everyone is different though.
