    Smolov with Front Squats

Anybody ever try this? I just tried to get through the first workout of the second week (4 sets of 9 with 70% plus 20 pounds), and couldn't even get my first set. My wrists couldn't handle it. I'm wondering if I should continue; anyone have similar experiences?

Do a search for the Smolov squat routine. I'd post a link, but not sure if the mods will allow it.

You could do them crossarm instead of wrists back...

    That program looks brutal.

Try it, you may react different to what others who might have tried it will. Learn from your OWN experience.

wrist problems are for girls :P

Actually I have the same issue. I've found that bringing your elbows up higher allows the bar to be pretty stable just sitting on my delts. This allows me to only have one or two very relaxed fingers on the bar. Alot less stress on the wrists.

i have tried cross arm style, but i always feel that the bar is choking me out because i have a big neck, and if i put the bar farther forward on my delt, it causes me to lean forward. So no cross arm for me. yeah, clean grip does hurt. I feel like on many of my front squat sets I have to stop because of wrist pain, but I do not think it is doing any perm damage. The more i perfect my clean grip, the less it hurts. Like he said, elbows out in front really makes the bar rest on the upper chest/delt. Also, squeezing your elbows together keeps the bar more stable. Watch some O lifters and see how their arms are at the end of a clean... this is how you should have yours if you are doing a clean grip front squat

do crossarm front squats, if your going to front squat heavy you gotta do em crossarm. I'm sure some people can do it the other way heavy but 99% of people can't.

Wrong, unless I'm one of the 1%. I've always used a clean grip, and have no problem going heavy.

That 1% must include every Olympic lifter in the world.

I made a long post as a reply to this question, but it is now gone ?

I used the opera browser.. Could that be the problem ?

Anyway, I have just completed the smolov base meso cycle for front squats, have to wait one week to test a new 1RM.

The entire smolov program i have done on two separate occasions before.

Very hard. Had progress of 27.5kg first time, and 30kg 2nd time on the squat.

Send me a PM if you have questions, or ask in this thread.

Damn... Smolov with front squats? I think it might be too taxing on the shoulders, abs, etc. Front squats require a lot more stabilization than back squats.
"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams
