    A cure for hand calluses from lifting?

    I've got really bad calluses on my hands from lifting. They don't bother me, but they scratch and snag my girlfriend sometimes. I hate gloves, but was wondering if any of you know of anything that helps?

    Forming calluses is an inherent quality of lifting heavy. You can shave them down, but I wouldn't recommend it because they will simply form again (and you might shave too close). If it bothers your girlfriend that much, put on some lotion.

    I personally think calluses are good for a killer mentality in the gym. Arnold touched on this in his encyclopedia. However, gloves will resolve this better than anything else. You gotta consider your girl too, she don't wanna feel no ruff dude calluses. Take care of those hands bro, chicks peep the hands and nails along with the shoes.

    Can take gloves but gloves just don't feel right to me. Even when I was working construction I would constantly get reprimended for not wearing gloves.

    You could also try using the climb-on bar, put it on before you go to sleep. Rock climbers use it to keep their hands supple but tough.

    Soak your hands in hot water to loosen them up, then you can brush back and forth with a dull (not a steak) knife.

    It's always worked for me, callouses are a pain in the ass when I deadlift.

    Try putting tape over the areas that get calluses. You don't have to wear gloves, but really you'll either wear gloves or deal with the calluses.

    tape is the best option, i row a lot and after 15 miles of doing that everyday i get some nasty calluses. My girlfriend hates it too so just tape them up, she'll start threatenin u with a break up and u don't want to choose her or the gym cos the gym will win

    Really though, they are just part of the process. Use some gloves, put some lotion, or get one of those files people user on their feet and sand em down. They will just come back though, and you will have to go through the pain of getting them all over again.........best to live with it

    Better yet, use photoshop to show her what you would look like without them (i.e. no muscles, fat, out of shape), then see how she feels about them!

    Its not just a case of whinning. If they get in the way of lifting comfortably, then its a good idea to try and resolve the situation - don't you think?

    How can callouses get so bad they interefere with lifting? I have mad callouses from deadlifts and playing guitar alot, and I have yet to have difficulty lifting with them. Where are your callouses?
