I'll take a pic for you w/ a measuring tape or something - the way i do it is take a string and wrap it around the peak then measure it out with a ruler - i have big shoulders so that also dwarfs em - and since they're my own arms, I'm pretty sure that know how big they are. btw read my post and you'll realize why they don't look as big. remember - proportion and cutting play a huge role in the appearance. im not here to prove anything to anyone, the pix are for informative purposes to show what i was saying in my post. thanksOriginally Posted by JoeDirtBody

Among my friends and family who don't work out, they all think my arms are huge and that I'm just like in the best shape in the world, which makes me laugh.
Even at my gym, which not populated by real bodybuilders (lots of gray-hairs on some sort of rehab or physical therapy program), they think my arms are big.
The thing is, my arms are only 15 inches! Maybe on a 5'-8" 158 lb. frame that's bigger than the average man, but among most of you guys here, my arms are PUNY.
So, I guess I'm just sayin', "what size bicep is considered big" is all in perception, and depends on what context you're coming from. Amongst the bodybuilders here, I'd consider 16 inches as the minimum to be "big", but in real life, it's probably 15 inches.

Well, I believe the original poster asked "at what size bicep considered big?"
After hours of research and consultation with experts I have the answer.....
What ever my arm measures......1 inch more is considered big. Always.
Same with chest. Same with thighs. I ain't there yet. One inch more.NASM-MMACS

look at the difference between my wrist and my biceps. I can't fit my thumb and middle finger around my wrists and I have huge hands. I can palm a bball no problem. again Im not cut so I lack definition, but I def. have mass.

Here's me at about 200-205lbs at 6'1 (11.5-12%). The pic was taken about a year ago (19yo at that time). The arms were close to 18' at that time (I think they were about 17.7').
I bulked the hell up to 230lbs and almost sported 19's when pumped (all at aroung 12%).
Now I'm down to 210-212 with 18's and 9.5% BF. On the road towards 7%
All natural of course.

im 5'11'' and 220 @ 9%bf
my arms are about 17.5 cold and they look pretty big on me
when they are pumped they look alot bigger though haha
was this post really necessary anyway? i mean it is bodybuilding....not bicep building!
reminds me of the 3 latino dudes that use the same gym as me....they pay 400 bucks a year for membership and come in JUST to train their bi's....i mean why not just spend that money on a set of Dumbells!
haha good times
Happy Lifting All!

Growth over the past couple of years
Mine are now right at 15.75. I can't seem to break in the 16 inch point. I'm 5ft. 7. and 165 lbs. I'm defintely shooting for 16.5.
It's defintely all in the way it's shaped, your bodyfat levels and symmetry.
By the way - the first was '02 and the second was '05.Last edited by Ed1; 09-04-2008 at 07:05 AM.

yea i would agree it depends on body size. My arms should measure close to 14.5 in 2 weeks at the end of my 3 month training. I am 5ft 8 inches tall and between 137-141 pounds. So i am small build but my arms look pretty big compared to other guys my size.

I can certainly attest to the fact that it depends from person to person.
Mine are only 12.5", but I have gotten some comments at the gym.
I have a really small frame, though (I only weigh 89 lbs). 12.5" on most other people would be miniscule.
I would definitely have even bigger arms if I could do curls with better form. It is difficult to do them while sitting in my wheelchair and since my last operation, using a preacher hurts. =\
Anyway, don't forget that the tricep accounts for a good portion of the arm. My triceps definitely enhance my arms' appearance.
(By the way, great picture, Ed. The improvement is astounding.)There is a God and his name is Billy Joel.
