    Difference between grams of sugar and grams of carbs

    What is the differnece between say 49 grams of sugar on a nutrition lable and 49 grams of carbs on a nutrition label?

    Not an expert, but this is my understanding:

    Sugar is a major form carbohydrate (a simple carb). That being said, a gram of carb and a gram of sugar each have 4 calories. When a nutrition label says 49 grams of carbs, some of the 49 grams could be sugar carbs but some of the carbs probably come from other sources unless the label also says 49 grams of sugar.
