500 calories more is all you need right?

500 calories over your BMR for bulking is all you need in order to bulk up right?, there's no faster way to gain muscle if you eat more than that is there

If you eat more than that you will probably gain more muscle at the expense of more fat.

if you eat more than 500 calories over you will add more weight but not the good kind....you shud take 500 cals over your regular intake and then step on the scale at the end of the week, you shud have gained around 1 lbs or so, anymore than that and its most lilely fat. Continue this until you dont see any weight gains and then generally up the cals again.

i'm not sure about this but i thought BMR is just how much you'd burn doing nothing. so if you're walking around (college), etc..., you're going to burn more calories. just factor that in.

You're right. It should be BMR plus other energy expenditure. Take that and add 300-500.

Exactly. The law of diminishing returns is in full effect here, so the more you eat, the more muscle you will gain, but as you eat more and more you'll gain less and less muscle from it and more and more fat. So if you really want to pack on muscle and for whatever reason don't give two ****s about fat, you can eat like a horse to maximize muscle gains. Or you can eat just above maintenance and gain little muscle, but no fat. It's best to find a medium between the two, so that you gain the most muscle possible, with acceptable fat gains.
