    Anyone have the Otomix shoes?

Been looking at picking up some weight lifting shoes and have heard a little about the Otomix line but not much. Top picks are the Adidas, Safe-USA, etc. but I am not willing to pay $200 for shoes.
I like the price on these and BB.com only carries them.

Any reviews would be great, thanks.

I've been looking at those too but I was thinking about the heel lift that the weight lifting shoes provide. I currently squat pretty flat footed but my calf still give me trouble so I figured it was time to lift the heel a little.

I don't have any, but I bet the guy that keeps posting the shoe ads could hook you up for cheaper than $200!
Yorkshireman I: Right! I had to get up in the morning, at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill and pay mill-owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our dad would kill us and dance about on our graves, singing Hallelujah!

Adidas weightlifting shoes, at least the ones I've seen, are more for Olympic lifting. They have a stiff sole with an elevated heel. The save-usa shoes are more for powerlifting. From pictures I've seen of those they don't have elevated heels like the adidas. The Otomix look more like a generic training shoe.

    Adidas :

    Safe-Usa

    Otomix:

All three shoes are different styles. It depends on what type of lifting you do and style shoe you like (heel, no heel, etc).

    Edit:
If you are wanting a heel you might try lifting in boots.

I have those Otomix shoes. Very flat soles with a slight heel. I like them, but since they're the only pair I've ever bought I have nothing to compare to.

I have a pair of Nike weight lifting shoes but I don't wear them very often. They are realllly old and still in good shape, but like I said they have very few miles on them. I don't think I could bring myself to spend $200 on shoes.

Not looking to do Oly type lifting. More power lifting and general weight lifting so a smaller heel is preferred.

Nike made a shoe for the China Olympic team, really nice looking shoe!

I think I may just shoot over and pick up a pair of Chuck Taylor's but will continue to look for something with a heel. I wish Nike would produce those for purchase but I am figuring not until the Olympics are over....bummer.

I say this everytime a shoe thread comes up. I am an Adidas guy, but for lifting the Nike Free 7.0 are my favorites, and there not $200, got mine for $80 about 1 1/2 years ago and still going strong. Everything from squats to my cardio.

    I wore Chuck Taylor's for a while.

I now wear old skool Stan Smith's on squat and dead day. They work for me and are a bit more comfy, but still have that firmness of sole the Chuck's have.

Unfortunately, they are not as cheap as you might think for a style that's been around forever ($60-ish) but much cheaper than the Oly shoes.

From my limited knowledge on the topic (I'm sure someone will chime in and tell me I'm all wrong ) when lifting heavy on exercises like squats or deads, you don't want a lot of "give" in your shoe. In other words, the "spring" you get out of a Nike Shox when running becomes an unhelpful "smoosh" when you squat 500 pounds. Using a shoe that is firm and flat is better. Hence, old school shoes seem to work pretty well.

I think that's why boots are good too...besides looking cool, they don't have a lot of give.

You hit it right on. One more thing, the lifting shoes, depending on which you go with, give some lift to the heel portion of the foot. If you look at the Nike's I posted, you can see the heel gives approx. 7/8 inch but it is hard, not "smooshy" as in a a running shoe.

About $100 in new engineering to the cost of the shoe.

LOL, very true. From what I understand, it is more difficult for us to keep our feet flat while doing squats and oly style lifts. By having the heel, it puts the foot in a more neutral position and makes it easier for us to keep pressure on the entire foot. I am not an expert so someone that has more knowledge should post.

    Love my Otomix

I finally bought a couple pair of the versa trainer pro's, Love them and would not consider training in anything else. They provide great heal support, which keeps your foot from rolling in or outward.
I had been using "sports shoes" for several years but as my squatting weight went up I felt unstable. Did some research and tried a few flat style shoes but finally broke down and got the Otomix. I have a couple of pair and rotate them so they have time to "rebound" thus prolonging their life.

If you are a runner for cardio I would not suggest you wear them on those days, get yourself a good pair of Running shoes and have them fitted for your running stride behavior. A good running shop will do it for free and if you dont want to pay the retail price get the style and shop online.

There is a OK article here on BB.com that does talk about shoes and how if you dont wear the correct shoe it will only lead to potential injury.

    http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/drsquat12.htm

The way I see it 80-200 bucks is cheap especially if you consider how much injury or surgery could be.

OK, well I think I will go with the Ultimate trainers. Look like they will server the purpose I want fairly well. I did go get a pair of Chuck Taylors and I will probably get some flak for this but I just can't wear them. Although, they had a pair of bright pink ones in my size and I almost got them just to be off the hook!!
I will post my review when they come in, they are currently out of stock here at bb.com....;(

One advantage of Chuck Taylors, or anything else that covers the ankle, is the little bit of support provided. If you are someone who pushes out against the edges of your feet, this can help maintain stability of the ankle, depending on the angle of the feet.

Also, the less padding and crap, the less the heel is elevated, which means less acute knee angle. Also, even if it is only 1/2" on the deadlift, it is less distance you have to pull the bar, which is one of the reasons they are popular with powerlifters.

I hear ya there and I like the idea behind the CT shoes, it's just, well, they look funny. I know, vanity, I have always had a dislike for them since I was a kid and I tried a pair. I'm looking at them right now, and I just can't bring myself to like the look. Maybe a pair of the black monochrome would do the trick....these white ones look terrible...lol

and you have to cut Fit some slack here, as one of the jobs of a moderator is always to protect the interests of paid sponsors, or whatever and those were the lines along which he was thinking.

but it is good to see this thread back, as I had missed it.

however, in answer to all these fancy dancy shoe alternatives, I have to say, that I have always worked out in whatever current sneakers I am wearing! LOL...

Most definitely. Once I realized it was right in the middle of all that spamming, I knew that Fitty was simply doing what he is suppose to. Best part is, he took the time to make it right, even though he didn't have to.
