Newbie - Oatmeal Question
Hello everyone. Does anyone have any variations to preparing oatmeal? I'm having a hard time stomaching it plain. I've tried adding splenda and cinnamon, but it doesn't seem to change the taste. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm on a 12-week nutrional plan to lose fat and oatmeal is my breakfast every day for, at least, the first two weeks.
Thanks,
Susan

I put equal (not splenda - it is sweeter - I am not though trying to start the aspartame debate here ) then some cinnamon - plus 1/2 scoop strawberry protein powder. Then 1/2 cup strawberries, 1/2 cup blueberries,1/2 cup blackberries - very very good.

I cook my oats then I cook my egg beaters with bell peppers in it and put it on top the oats. I eat it together like a pie the pepers add good flavor.

I add 2 tbsp applesauce (and reduce water by 2 tbsp), as well as cinnamon.

I love oats so I never have that problem but I eat mine with 1tbsp ground flaxseed which adds a slight nutty flavour.

yummy....
ooooo oatmeal, my fave breakfast, especially since I live in a college dorm, my water heats up in seconds in my hotpot....some YUMMY add-ins:
1. protein powder, Nat PB and SF choc. syrup
2. muscle milk; EAS max milk, instead of the super expensive "muscle milk n' oats"
3. protein powder, apple, walnuts, SF maple syrup
4. cottage cheese, splenda, or other SF flavor syrup, or SF jam, someone has probably tried this, it's tastier than you think!
5. cook with some egg whites/water
probably more, I get pretty creative b/c of how I eat and how I like variety

SuzyQue, I LOVE Steel Cut Oats. Try this:
1/2 cooked HOT Steel Cut Oats
Mix in 1 tbsp. nat. peanut butter and cinnamon
Add in slices of apple
Reheat for a few seconds to soften up the apples.
Add 1 tbsp. ground flaxseed.
This is so yummy!
Not sure how you cook your Steel Cut Oats but I found the best way is to do it overnight. You boil 2 cups of water. Add 1 cup of SCO and turn the heat off. Cover and let it sit overnight. Its perfect the next morning.

You can use it to make protein pancakes if you mix 1/2 cup oats with two egg whites and one whole egg (or just 4 egg whites), 1/4 cup cottage cheese, 1 tbsp flaxseeds, cinnamon, splenda (or stevia) and nutmeg. It's so good (this recipe is from Mommy*2*3 -- and I say a little thank you to her every morning)!

Since your diet is probably pretty regimented, using a lot of fruit or applesauce might be out of the question, but mixing in a some of your favorite whey is pretty good. I read what you said about the splenda and gram for gram it's the sweetest arficial sweetener, but the packets contain such a small amount. I have used 3 packets with half a cup of oats and maybe some strawberry whey. It's a really great dish. Hope this helps.

this works for me.
I'm a steel cut oats kind of woman, I really don't like the other kinds.
The only sweetner is I use is Demerara cane sugar which is really just evaporated cane juice.

Since it's fall and all, i've been using lots of pumpkin lately...
1/2 c oats
1/2 c canned pumpkin
1 scoop vanilla whey
H2O
cinnamon & nutmeg to taste
i don't add splenda as it's sweet enough for my taste but you could add a bit in if you'd like it a bit sweeter. happy oatmeal to you!
