Smith Machine Military Press Vs Free Weight

Which is better, using a free weight bar or using a smith machine? I read a Muscle & Fitness magazine and it says that Military Press promotes more growth & stimulation for shoulder than Free Weight Military Press

Freeweights for me is better because it forces me to use stabilzer muscles to balance it.

    !!

you definitely get a better workout by using free weights instead of Smith machine for military presses. i think the benefit of the Smith machine is that it allows you to get a good set and focus more on perfect form without struggling to support the weight. the Smith machine is also good for guys who don't have training partners to spot them. i like using it for shrugs too. don't get me wrong, i use free weights predominantly, i just like to throw in some Smith movements too.

the only thing i use the smith machine for is my military press, too many injuries goin heavy on free weights
Maybe it's hatred I spew, maybe it's food for the spirit
Maybe it's beautiful music I made for you to just cherish
But I'm debated disputed hated and viewed in America
as a motherf**kin drug addict - like you didn't experiment?
Now now, that's when you start to stare at who's in the mirror
and see yourself as a kid again, and you get embarrased
And I got nothin to do but make you look stupid as parents
You f**kin do-gooders - too bad you couldn't do good at marriage!

I've read about a lot of bodybuilders who pretty much just use machines for their workouts, so obviously both machines and free weights do work. I guess it all comes down to what you feel the most comfortable doing. I've used both and they both worked well.

I only use freeweights because thats all i have, i would like to use smith machines for some exercises that are prone for injury as i dont have a training partner.

Read the link $AJ posted and feel much smarter now. Finally understand the "hatred" of the smith machine. (and here, I thought y'all were just hardcore dinosaurs that hated fancy contraptions.)

    Thank you for the insight.
