    Fat loss and waist size?

Just a question here, how many pounds of fat typically do you need to lose per inch on the waist measurement.

I know there is no such thing as spot reduction, but I am looking to lose at least 4" from the waist, and am looking for a realistic target. Thanks.

That is a really interesting question Lucky. It depends on so many different factors that I really cannot give a specific answer. Your current body fat % and how your body stores fat will play huge roles in how many lbs of fat you will need to lose in order to drop 4 inches off of your waist.

If I had to give an EXTREMELY rough estimate, I would say you are probably looking at between 5-8lbs of fat per inch.

Good luck on attaining your goal of losing 4 inches off your waist!

At 320+ I was wearing size 44 pants. At 290 I am wearing size 40 (and even they are a bit loose).

The fat loss required to lose an inch off the waist at the higher sizes is going to be much greater than the fat loss required to lose an inch off the waist at the lower sizes.

This is because the area of a circle increases dramatically as you increase its circumference.

That is why it is so hard to give a one size fits all answer (pun intended).

I think the results depend on the frame size, I lost 30 lb (6 inches off the waist line) so for me it was 5 lb per inch
Whatever nature gave me, Thank you, The rest I'll make myself :)

Yep everyone is different. I weighed about 170 on January 1st 2006 with a 34 inch waist size pants. I now weigh about 161 and my size 32 size pants fit good. If I have a cheat weekend with high amounts of sodium and crap, I can literally gain 2 inches in water around my belly button area, thus making my size 32 pants fit uncomfortable and I feel like ****.

Old post I know but I have been asked this question a lot and was looking for a definitive answer. Guessing others asking will be lead here since Google put it in the top 3 search results. I know it really varies on a ton of variables. Probably; height, body fat, what physical activities you are doing, genetics. It would be cool to have an equation.

For me I lost 5 lbs and it took 6" off my waist. From a 34 inch waist to a 28 inch waist.

This has been very helpful. Since my first post I really cracked down on being more realistic about my calorie intake- keeping it to a point where I feel healthy but am reducing size (Under my calculated BMR) and am working out like a beast....

I've noticed modest changes in the scale.. 3 lbs in 2 weeks, but the inches are flying off.. my waist is down an a little over an inch (approx an inch and a half). Noticing it huge in arms and thighs as well.

I was very active before starting to monitor my calorie intake, and I ate well I just ate too much , so I'm not dropping epic water from sodium rich foods etc...

I was feeling moderately discouraged by the scales minimal moving though , despite realizing I am building a lot of muscle with my increased workouts / lifting heavier/more

If I am looking to monitor my actual body fat % reduction (which is my goal) is there a loose way to keep track of that by the specific AREAS im losing inches? Or should I re-calculate my whole body each time? (used military measurement calculator for body fat. Unsure if thats a good one to use?)

My weight loss has completely stalled according to the scales but I feel im getting thinner and my belt size keeps dropping. Thank god for that if i was relying on the scales only i would be in depression by now

30 lb lost = 4 inches for me, so that's an inch per 7.5 lbs
