Why is it that whenever I see a post about bed time meal I see CC. What does it do thats so important? If I bought it should I eat it 10 minutes before bed? I heard eating anything before sleeping is not good for you since your body slows down and turns anything excess into fat.

Cottage cheese is a slow digesting protein. 1 serving can take 5-6 hours to digest. If you take it before bed, you body will be able to recieve protein throughout the night, avoiding catabolism.

Plus, it's almost like a protein supplement, except that it's actually whole food. A cup of cottage cheese has about 30 grams of protein with very little carbs and fat if you get lowfat or fat free cottage cheese.
Which exit? **** you, that's which exit.

Anabolic = growth
Catabolic = breakdown
The terms are used in connection with muscle. Muscle constantly goes through cycles of catabolism and anabolism. You need to be in a positive anabolic state, to gain muscle.
When you diet, you tend to be more often in a catavolic state, because you are restricting calories. Eating before bed will hinder fatloss, but will also hinder muscle breakdown. You have to weigh the balance. Slow digesting protein with low fat and low carbs, strikes that balance.DS and ID Mag, 'nuff said. For now.

[QUOTE=msundi83]Right before bed is fine, basically, your last meal of the day would be a good one for cottage cheese and a fat source like natural peanut butter (not skippy, jif, or any of that processed junk). QUOTE]
Wont the fat turn into excess fat because your body is slow down? Man I'm confused..... Is'nt the fat bad for the body? I will go read up on all the articales about nutritients probably tomorrow since I know to little to even end the journet the right way.

Yes, if you eat crap and too much of it, but a good diet conquers this stupid fear everyone has.

everyone needs to get this into their heads FATS ARE GOOD FOR YOU
For simplicity's sake
IF you choose the right sources (not all are the same):
nuts and seeds - almonds, flax, sesame, walnuts, ......
olive oil
fish oil
avocados
You will not gain weight if you incorporate them into your daily alloted calorific intake - you need fat to burn fat
Stay away from the fat in:
fatty meats
junk foods
and you will be fine
Ghostthor, you really do need to read up a LOT more on these boards as they will answer many of your nutritional questions, start with the stickies and have fun =)

You need fat for the fat soluble vitamins (A,D,E,K).
Total calorie intake is probably the most important factor determining whether you will gain/lose fat, along with macronutrient breakdown (percentage of protein/carbohydrates/fats).
Food with good fats:
Avocado
Nuts (pecan, macadamia, almond, etc)
Lean beef (contains saturated fats, use in moderation)
Fatty fish (tuna, salmon macarel)
Flax seed oil (keep it in a cool dark place)
Extra virgin olive oil, macadamia oil, almond oil
Coconut oil (in moderation)
Bad fats:
Anything processed, usually contains partially hydrogenated vegetable oil and trans fats

I eat around 1/2 cup of FF Cottage cheese and 50g of skippy super chunk natural before bed. Maybe add some cinnamon mmmm.. or even walnuts would be a good subsitute. walnuts contain melotonin(sp) which aids in deeper sleep or something. good stuff before bed

i'm 6ft 2 and 220.
It was quite a rough count i did, but i'm fairly confident i took in about 1760 cals.
I actually forgot about the 2 slices of bread, and some salad i had (tomato, onion, red pepper, cucumber). Maybe that will make up the difference.
Bread (2 slices) - Protein 8g / Carbs 32g / Fat 2g
So that would be another:
8*4=32
32*4=128
1*9=9
Total= 1484
I've no idea about the protein/carbs/fat in the vegies, but i'm maybe not too far off.Last edited by BluKoo; 04-07-2009 at 02:45 PM.

well if you are only taking in 1315 calories i'd say that is way too low, i'm also 6ft 2 and I am 10 pounds lighter at 210 pounds and i can lose weight at say about 2500 calories without doing excessive cardio. I hit weights 5 times a week and actual cardio workouts maybe 3 times a week. I do alot of walking here and there so maybe that helps. I'd definitely say you don't have to eat so little calories man.
Edit: Just seen your edit now lol, well yeah closer to 2000 may be ideal for you man, maybe slightly higher. Also up the protein man to AT LEAST 1 gram per pound of your lean bodyweight but closer to 1-1.3 grams of protein of your actual bodyweight in pounds toward off catabolism.
GOOD LUCK!!!Last edited by sheva; 04-07-2009 at 02:43 PM.
