Hey everyone, please place your VOTES (democratic fashion) for the most underrated and overrated bodybuilders in the history of the sport. Please vote in the following fashion so I can tabulate and post the results in a weeks time. Please feel free to include interesting banter and discussion as well.
UNDERRATED
3 points (1st place) - MENTZER - His voluntary departure justifyable hinders his reputation, but his contributions to the sport and degree to which he was screwed in the 1980 Olympia cannot be underscored.
2 points - HANEY - In my mind the best bodybuilder ever. No offense Arnold. The total package.
1 point - PLATZ - Best wheels ever and he's rarely mentioned among the elites.
OVERRATED
3 points (1st place) - YATES - Impressive run of Olympias inflates what was an overrated mass monster.
2 points - PRINCE - While he is certainly not highly touted, all the attention and focus he receives is unjustified. It is certainly unfortunate the degree to which his health has deteriorated, but he understood the risks and pushed himself beyond the level he could achieve.
1 point - DICKERSON - An Olympia winner...he is the worst of that exclusive club, that's enough to make the list.
Excited to see everyone's votes...

Mentzer is a wimp, the guy probably had the best physique around at that time and just because he losses in a contreversial contest at the 1980 Mr Olympia....he quits altoghter, and never comes back.
Where was his desire and heart, what about other bodybuilders who gave it their all year after year only to get second place...but still competeted anyway.Last edited by The_One77; 04-16-2006 at 09:01 AM.

Most Undderated include Nasser El sonbaty who at 280 pounds had no gut, great abs, and good conditioning.

Other Notable people include Flex Wheeler who at the 93 Arnold had the physique capable of beating anyone in history past and present. Check this picture to see how he stacks against Coleman

While I dont like him as a person Lou Ferrigno also is underated as he had quite a phsyique when he reached his prime
http://www.schwarzenegger.it/mro/ferrigno/lf150.jpg
Branch Warren- The guy has some serious conditoning and potential. Look for him and Gustavo to be serious contenders soon.
Overated
Ron Coleman- The mans gut is an absolute disgrace to the sport, dress it up all you want, ignore it, whatever its stil there check the sig.
Steve Reeves- I dont see what is so special about him, I think even someoen that is natural could attain his phsyque and then some
Mentzer- Whiel many claim him to be underated I find for the few fans he has he is overated. IMo his shoulders as a whole sucked and through the rest of him out totallly. His training style is terrible and hardly any pro uses it. He quit after 1980 and cried about it. Hes far from a champion in any aspect as far as Im concerned.

isnt this thread idea over-rated now that we have so many of them, dont we?
well anyways, i think frank zane is overrated, so wat if he was ripped, he was smaller than everyone, missing the BUILDING aspect of bodybuilding in my opinion, but thats just my opinion, no need to get panties in a bunch.
i think back in the day paul dillet was a bit underrated, i met him before, and hes freaking huuuuuge. cutler used to be way underrated back before he started placing second, nobody talked about him like i did.
victor martinez is the bomb

i think darrem charles is extremely underrated. he does very well in non mr. 0 competitions but because of his smaller stature he can barely crack the top 10 at the O. same with guys like troy alves and mark dugdale. i also think gustavo is a tad underrated. i wouldnt be surprised if he has a 5-6 year olympia run after ronnie, even while jay is still in the game.
i'd eat the ass off a rhino if it would make me huge.

yeah, you're right, I admit it, BUT it is however true that ronnies stomach is distended, not matter what people say, so I don't really see how telling it like it is, can be considered trash. However, you could of course mention his strengths a little more maybe, but it's not like that hasn't been done before

well....
Over...
1-Jay
2-Ronnie
3-Gunter
4-Markus
and that because they all are BLOCKY!!!!
Under..
1-Shawn
2-Flex
3-Paul Dillet
4-Kevin Levrone
5-Frank Zane ( the guy is a god )
6-Lee Priest
7-Darrem Charles
Enough of mass monsters, pregnant huge 300 pound bodybuilders...
They would solve the problem very easy, just put a weight limit for every height, and the guys just have to increase in quality, shape, condition, but not in weight, would be much more healthy and more competition around...not so many drugs...they could be all year round in shape for guest posing....and maybe one day bodybuilding could have the recognition that deserves...my 2 cents...
There is nobody with a brain in IFBB????

His size is phonemenol, perhaps one of the biggest on stage and he is very well condiotioned for that size. Has massive ripped arms, good solid abbs, Ronnie Coleman was by far the best on stage. Incredible glutes to say the least and has the biggest back on stage too.
He barely had a gut in the 2005 Olympia, basically he had the complete package.
Funny how not many people seem to mention Dorian had a wide waist or small biceps, but all the criticism is always directed at Ronnie Coleman.
Or Frank Zane was far too small, and Ronnie is just as ripped as Arnold today but 50 pounds bigger and 3 inches shorter.
Flex in 1993 was too smallLast edited by The_One77; 04-16-2006 at 09:42 AM.

Well, by far the best abs ??? no way dude, good abs for his size, yes, but the best on stage ? Let's not get carried away, he does have many strong points, but in every interview with a bodybuilder they say ronnie has this and that and so on, more or less nothing but praise for the guy, except for Jay, who thinks he can beat Ronnie. On this forum, it might be a whole other story, but the rest of the IFBB world praises him
