Wearing a Belt While Doing Squats

How many of you wear a belt while doint squats? Is it a good idea? I'm just now squatting 200+ pounds. I want to stay safe, but I don't want to interfere with the positive effects of squats.

    Thanks for the advice.

I don't use a belt for the warm up sets, but I do for my work sets...

if you're 1RM'ing and pl'ing, yea, btu for regular lifting no. you'll take away from core work and introduce higher chances of injuries later on (if you squat w/o a belt later on)

If you're not going to wear it, do so because you want to better target your core. Do not refuse to wear it because it isn't "hardcore" or whatever bull**** some tool tries to tell you. Safety equipment is not dumb, period.
If you think you can, you will.
If you think you can't, you're right.

I don't wear one on any exercise for a very specific reason. As long as I am beltless and keeping my form strict, I know that my body can handle anything that I am lifting (health issues). If I was wearing belts, suits etc I would be conscious of whether I was lifting more than I was really ready for.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......

Squats don't magically stop working your core because you put on a belt. Personally, I go beltless until around 80-85% of my max, and then I put on a belt and knee wrapps.

A belt is used to support your abs primarily. Your Abs support your back. If you make your abs stronger, you'll have great back support. If you hurt your back doing squats then you're not ready for that weight. The belt will help your back a bit but your abs do most of the support. Strong abs means a healthy back Unless you have disk issues :/
