Sometimes I'll go to the gym 2 -3 hours after I've eaten. How much of a difference does it make if I eat a meal 1 hour before I go to the gym? Doesn't necessarily have to be a meal - could it just be a protein shake or something?

i like to train between 1 - 3 in the afternoon
so depending on when i get up, i need to get 3 meals in before then, i wouldn't say itmade a huge difference to my workout, if any at all
but i woudl definitly advise at least 1 hour between a meal and trainning

eat 1-1.5 hours before...IMO the pre-workout meal has almost no effect on the workout. The meals you ate the days before have a much greater effect so make sure to keep things consistent eat 6-8 small meals split every 2-2.5 hours get all your nutrients in all your meals meaning lean protein, complex carbs and good fats.
